JACK HERBERT ARKLIE

October 14, 1937 – January 30, 2023

With heavy hearts and sadness, along with many cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and friend Jack Arklie on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the age of 85 years.

Jack was born in Winnipeg and lived his entire life in St. James. Jack had strong values and a hard work ethic that eclipsed all of yesterday's and today's standards. He began his career at the Canadian National Railway where he discovered his love of woodworking; this passion remained with him for the rest of his life. He was a fixer and builder of all. There was no task or challenge that he would not tackle. He joined the St. James Fire Department shortly after the CNR. Jack was part of the final shift when the St. James Fire Department amalgamated with the City of Winnipeg. He spent the rest of his career with the WFD, retiring with the rank of District Chief. In his early years, Jack’s love of hockey brought him joy through refereeing junior hockey and coaching many kids in the neighborhood.

Jack was a devoted and loving husband to Donnie (nee Poole) for 58 years. His love for his family was undying and his support was never-ending. From all that received them, Dad’s bear hugs will be missed.  His strong core values were the foundation which propelled the family forward. Jack’s greatest passion and past-time was building and expanding the family cottage at Rush Bay, Lake of the Woods.  In later years, Jack and Donnie also enjoyed cruising with friends.  These were all times to cherish.

Jack is survived by his wife Donnie, his son Grant Arklie (Krista), his daughter Nadine Robinson (Mark) and his grandchildren, Jordyn, Brooke, Cameron, Lauren, Carson, Marek, and Kade.  He is also survived by his brother Ron Arklie and his sister Dot Dickner (Rene), sisters-in-law Glenice McKeon (Bill), and Shirley Cormier. He had a cherished connection with his nephew Terry Land, his wife Lynn and their children Andrea (James) and Steve (Robyn).

Jack’s family would sincerely like to thank the home-care workers and staff at the Charleswood Care Home for their kindness, care, and assistance over this past year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory can be made to the Manitoba Fire Fighters Burn Fund,

A celebration of Jack’s life will take place on May 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
