May 24, 1952 – March 28, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that Bev passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021 in the Gimli Hospital at the age of  68 years.

While Bev never had children of her own, she is survived by her nieces, Tara, Krista (Rob), Melissa (Andrew), Janel, and Tessa; and her nephew Ryan (Erin) (to all of whom she was an amazing aunt); brother George (Hanna); grandnieces, Alexia, Isabella, and Sofia; grandnephews, Bentley and Erik; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her common-la partner Donnie; parents, Fred (Sr.) and Alice (née Riddell); and Brothers Fred (Jr.) and Donald.

Bev was second youngest of four children and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended St. Alphonsus School, St. Mary’s Academy, and Miles MacDonald Collegiate. During her time in primary school Bev honored her mother’s Riddell Scottish heritage by taking up highland dancing, and she was a member of Girl Guides of Canada. Bev attended the University of Manitoba and obtained her Education Degree. Bev’s passion for teaching spanned over 30 years being a substitute teacher for the Winnipeg School Division and the Interlake School Division.

Like her mother Alice, Bev grew up loving the peace and tranquility of nature. With family she enjoyed the family cottage at Otter Falls in the Whiteshell Provincial Park for many years. Bringing the family together and enjoying memories was especially important to Bev. When her mother Alice suffered from a stroke in 1984, Bev stepped up and was tower of strength and helped care of her mother for over 17 years until her mother’s passing. She loved spending time with her nieces including treating them to movies as kids and carried on the tradition of special times together with brunch and shopping dates.

Bev enjoyed the last 20 years in Matlock, MB., where she was involved in the local community social groups, Church and her most cherished passion being a member the Toast Masters Club. This provided the platform to share her love of writing stories and poetry through her speeches. She loved the relaxed lake life and spending time with her beloved dogs, Caesar and Hero.

The family would like to thank the Interlake Palliative Care and Home Care teams, and the Gimli Hospital doctors, nurses and support staff for all their help and care during the last few months of Bev’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Bev’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.

A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at a later date when friends and family can gather to celebrate and share all the amazing memories they shared with her.

Following the celebration of life her interment will take place at St. Andrews On the Red Cemetery, St. Andrews. MB. Bev’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above, and sharing photos, memories and stories in the comment section on this page.

Miss Me – But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room!

Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little – but not too long

And not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared

Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take

And each must go alone;

It's all a part of the master's plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me – but let me go.
