May 26, 1946 - August 15, 2021

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jaimz, aged 75, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Jaimz leaves to mourn his life partner Maria, daughters Kim and Nancy (Troy), step-son Andrew (Chelsea), grandchildren Brenden, Dayven, Emmy, Aylee, Raydin and Kiera, sister Leslie (Michael), numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by his mother Barbara (1970), sister Lorraine (1985), sister Lois (1991) and his father Fred (1998).

Jaimz was born in Winnipeg on May 26, 1946, to Barbara (Campbell) and Fred Hornsby.  He spent the majority of his childhood in the Brooklyn neighbourhood, then moving to St. Vital in his youth.  He also lived in Southdale, Elmwood, Osborne Village, St. Norbert, East Elmwood and East Kildonan.

Jaimz worked at many different jobs but some of the most notable to him were the Department of National Revenue (1966-68), Northern Electric (1968-70), Canadian Electronics (1970-72), Manitoba Youth Centre (1972-74) and Winnipeg Transit (1974-2008).  He spoke fondly of working at the Youth Centre and Transit, mainly for all the people he met and spoke with while working there.  He really enjoyed his last three years at Winnipeg Transit since he was assigned to work in the Treasury department while a leg injury was healing.

In retirement he became a voracious reader spending several hours each day reading world news, Facebook and well over one thousand books on his e-reader.  He read so many books that he was currently on his third e-reader, having burned out the previous two.

He truly enjoyed our Winnipeg summer weather, being able to sit outside and read or do a little gardening and the annual trip up to Gimli to enjoy the beach and town.  He hated the winters here and dreaded the shorter days and cold, dark nights.

We would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Care and Riverview Health Centre 3E for their help in caring for Jaimz during this difficult time.

Jaimz always tried to help disadvantaged kids in any way he could so he had requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Winnipeg Free Press Sunshine Fund.

A short photo-biography set to one of Jaimz's favourite songs is available above. The family encourages the sharing of stories, memories and condolences by using the comment section on this tribute page.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

We love you Jaimz.  You’ll always be in our hearts.
