EDWARD “ROCKY” CHARBASZCZ

October 24, 1934 - October 13, 2023

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Edward “Rocky” Charbaszcz, who died peacefully on October 13, 2023 at the age of 88, after a short stay at Riverview Health Centre.

To mourn his passing Edward leaves behind his wife of 65 years Kathleen; his son Darrel; daughter Shannon; and grandchildren, Ferron (Pierry) and Anthony. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Walter; and his two brothers, Raymond and Leon.

Edward was born in Tarnopol, Saskatchewan on October 24, 1934. The family relocated to Winnipeg in the late 40s, and in 1958 he married Kathleen. Edward worked as a mailer at the Winnipeg Press for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a gifted mechanic and could fix anything – most notably, the Free Press tying machines.

Dad loved music and could often be found playing his favourite Hank Williams songs on his guitar; he was a hit at all the family get togethers! He even entertained the folks at Amber Meadow with his harmonica playing during the last two years. Dad had many hobbies, including target shooting, and was the president of the Gateway Gun Club for many years. For most of his life, Dad enjoyed being outdoors. He loved all wildlife and animals, especially horses! He took great pride in his yard, and spent many hours trimming trees, perfecting his lawn, and building birdhouses.

Dad was liked by everyone and had many friends. He was especially loved by his children, wife, and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by all.

The Family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the palliative care program with special thanks to Angiela his nurse, his HCAs, Sandi Dean care coordinator as well as nurses Kat and Christine and the HCAs on 3 West.

Cremation has taken place. A small celebration of Edward’s life is planned for a later date.

“Bye for now”
