November 17, 1952 - July 12, 2021
With heavy hearts, we announce that our beloved Joanne passed away peacefully on July 12, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 48 years, Murray; children, Michael (Reena) and Amelie (Jason); grandchildren, Ayva, Rohan, Aidan, Coltan, and Emmett; siblings, Jim (Kathy), Jeannie, John (Elaine), Jan (Bernie), Larry (Dee), Jerry, Lori (Rob), and Geri (Rick); as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Rhea Collin.
Born in Indian Head, SK, Joanne spent her formative and teenage years in Thompson, MB where she excelled in athletics, earning a prized collection of ribbons and medals in various sports and on the track. It was there that she met her future husband, Murray. They married and settled in Winnipeg in 1972, raising their beloved children, Michael and Amelie, as well as their dearly loved dogs, Stealer, Cooper and Daisy.
In her working life, Joanne was a proficient stenographer and administrative clerk who worked for various banks and for the government of Canada. Working to her own high standards brought her great satisfaction, but nothing compared in Joanne’s life to quality time with her family. She celebrated the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren with pride. Gathering for family brunches and dinners was a favourite pastime of Joanne’s as were the numerous family trips that she was so instrumental in planning. Joanne had many wonderful adventures from coast to coast, through Western Europe., the U.K., Mexico, the Caribbean, Arizona, Hawaii, Alaska and even Egypt, to name a few. Above all, her favourite trips were cruises, where unforgettable memories were made with her family.
Joanne was a gentle and doting Nana to her grandchildren. It was a mission of hers to help recreate her own children’s summer bliss at a cottage retreat. Many summers were spent looking for the perfect family cottage and she and Murray found just what she wanted 4 years ago at Victoria Beach, where the Conklin family has a long history. The memories made there with Joanne will never be forgotten.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Joanne’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
In accordance with Joanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021. Regrettably, the pandemic obliges us to limit numbers.
