ELLYSON PERCIVAL DOOKHERAN

July 12, 1939 - November 11, 2021

After a brief illness and a life well lived, Ellyson (lovingly known as Elly and Duke) peacefully passed away at the age of 82 at the Grace Hospice. Elly joins the pride and joy of his life, his only son, Hayden who predeceased him 15 months ago. Elly was also predeceased by his parents, Francis and Estelle and his beloved brother, Ralph. Papa will be forever remembered by his granddaughters, Kyra (Tristen) and Salina (Mas) and his great grandson, Kale who he loved dearly. Elly will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Jean (Sylbert) and brothers Clive (Jane) and Franklin as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Elly was born on July 12th, 1939 in Trinidad and Tobago. He enjoyed his childhood growing up alongside his siblings in Trinidad. He worked in the accounts department for Princess Town Special Bus Service Company Limited. In 1972, he moved with his son Hayden to Toronto and stayed there briefly before coming to Winnipeg. Winnipeg became home for Elly and Hayden. Elly spent his career in Winnipeg working in hotel management for a number of different hotels. He was well respected by many in the hospitality industry. Elly will be remembered as a gentle soul who loved his son, grandchildren and family. He proudly raised his son and they shared a special bond throughout their lives. Elly enjoyed socializing with friends and family but was also content to stay at home and watch movies or wrestling. His family jokes that he is one of WWE’s biggest fans. Elly enjoyed cooking and watching sports especially cricket and hockey. We will remember his calm spirit and warm smile and we will miss the regular phone calls from him “just to say hello”.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospice for the care and support provided to Elly in his final weeks. Special thank you to two special friends who were like family to Elly: Ryan Goolia and Bobby Persaud. Your friendships meant so much to our Papa. Thank you for everything.

After his son passed away 15 months ago, Elly was left with a broken heart. We find great comfort in knowing that father and son are together once again.

At Ellyson’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. To honour him, cheer on your favourite team, spend time with the ones you love and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
