It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Donald Gibson on July 12 2020, at the age of 92.

 

Don will forever be remembered by his wife Vivian of 67 years; four children, Bruce (Sheree), Ken (Pat), Kimberly (Barry), and Brenda (John); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Bev (Fred), sisters-in-law Jackie (Ethan), Ruth (Ian), and  Bernice.

 

Dad was born and lived in St. Vital all of his life. He loved golfing and as a twelve-year old he won a golf tournament; he always said if he hadn’t met Mom he could have been a professional golfer. He loved sports and played hockey and baseball on the Eaton’s team.

 

Dad followed in the family footsteps and entered employment with the T.Eaton’s Co. For 42 years he was a shoe buyer in the warehouse and the store, later becoming the manager of the ladies shoe department. He enjoyed working with the ladies.

 

Dad and Mom loved to travel took us on road trips when we were kids then when we were old enough to leave alone, they were off to Europe, Florida, Hawaii, Vegas, and several cruises.

 

Dad also loved the cottage at Brereton Lake we had lots of fun there and if he took you fishing, there was no talking was allowed.

 

Dad was a man of few words but when he did say something, he would tell it the way it was. He would start his day by reading his Winnipeg Free Press. If it hadn’t been delivered on time, he would get quite upset.

 

Dad loved being with family and was fortunate enough to see his grandchildren get married and have children of their own. Dad attended Calvary Temple throughout his whole life, which was where he met Mom. He volunteered as an usher and in the Sunday School office.

 

A private celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Calvary Temple. Don’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above.
