RONALD DOUGLAS HRABI

December 27, 1948 - December 10, 2023

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Ron Hrabi in the early morning hours of December 10th at St. Boniface Hospital. Aged 74, Ron leaves behind a void that echoes the deep impact he had on those who knew and loved him. Born on December 27, 1948, he wasn't just a devoted family man but also a fervent automotive enthusiast with an enduring love for fishing and baseball.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his children Geoff and Kevin (Gladys), and his cherished granddaughters Yolanda, Emma, and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigmund and Alice, and his sister Barbara. The youngest of two children, Ron was raised in Winnipeg, where he spent his entire life. Following in his father's footsteps, he worked as a mechanic and later co-owned and operated Standard Auto Spring in 1990 with two friends. Ron never truly retired; he always found joy in his work.

His affinity for cars defined Ron's life. Whether beneath the hood or behind the wheel, his connection with automobiles was unparalleled, shaping his professional pursuits and his approach to relationships and life itself.

In high school, fate intervened as Ron crossed paths with the love of his life, Betty. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey spanning 53 years. Ron's love for fishing and baseball added a cherished dimension to his life. Steep Rock, Manitoba, held a special place in his heart, where he reveled in quality time with loved ones, casting lines into the waters and sharing the thrill of the catch.

Known for his unwavering commitment to helping others, Ron's compassion extended beyond human relationships to include his beloved pets, Sooner and Kermit, cherished members of the family. Their presence brought Ron immeasurable comfort and joy, enriching the warmth of his home.

The family sends thanks to the St. Boniface Palliative Unit for their compassionate care during his brief stay.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service. Instead, the family requests that all friends and relatives take a few minutes to honor his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories in the comment section on this page.

As we bid farewell to Ron, let us remember him for the love he shared, the indelible memories he created, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures.

In the quiet echo of a wrench's turn,

Underneath the starlit sky,

Ron found joy in every moment,

As life's journey passed him by.

With tools in hand and love in heart,

He navigated roads both near and far,

A husband, a father, a friend,

Leaving us with memories that forever are.

So, as we part with a heavy heart,

Let's celebrate the life he led,

For in our thoughts and stories shared,

Ron's spirit lives on, never to be shed.

May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an enduring passion for the open road.
