AVRIL HYKAWAY

December 15, 1944 - February 23, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Avril on February 23, 2022 at the age of 77.

Left to mourn her is her daughter Kristine; sister-in-law Karen; niece Jennifer (Grant); grand niece Olivia; nephew Michael (Juliette); sister-in-law Molly, nephew Trevor (Angie) and family, many friends and coworkers. Avril is predeceased by her husband Jack, father John, stepfather Robert, mother Mary (Marie), mother in law Kathleen, brother John and brother in laws Barrie and Ted.

Avril was someone who lit up the room with her personality and cheerfulness. Always friendly and whose voice was bigger than her stature. In her early adult years, she loved to curl and was involved with the StandardAero Curling league. After she got married Avril relocated to Gilliam where she met her best friend Dallas and remained close friends with her and her family until Dallas’ passing. While living in Gilliam she welcomed her daughter Kristine. After a couple of years she returned to Winnipeg and was rehired by StandardAero. For 50+ years she enjoyed working there. She looked forward to attending retirement events where she was able to reminisce with former coworkers. A lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan she had a once in a lifetime meeting with her favourite player Jean Beliveau. Avril enjoyed watching Winnipeg Goldeyes games and was a long-time season ticket holder. She enjoyed supporting the Goldeyes so much that she often travelled to Fargo to see them play. There she met Joe, Wanda, Pete and Darlene who became special friends to her. In her later years Avril got to travel to places like New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Minneapolis. She made a memorable trip to Jamaica in 2010 and was able to return for two more visits. Avril was a special person who brought joy to so many.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Avril’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.
