HELEN KOSACK
(née SUM)
May 20, 1943 – November 23, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen, wife of Larry for 55 years. She leaves behind her loving husband Larry and dear son Kurtis, her brother Peter (Brenda), and twin brother Alex (MaryAnne). As well as many cousins, Joy (Bob), Ruth (Gord), Lilly (Michael), and Joe, and many friends.
Helen was predeceased by her dear daughter Lisa, her parents Daria and William Sum, her brothers John (Alice) and Michael, and sister Anne (Joe).
Helen was born in Dennis Lake, MB and attended North Polsen School; where Helen and Alex had the same teacher for 7 years, Mr. John Miller. In 1950, they received a new teacher, Mrs. Helen Klowak, our Helen’s favourite teacher!
In 1957, the Sum family moved to East Selkirk, MB where Helen attended Happy Thought School, and completed her high school education at Selkirk Collegiate. Thereafter, Helen received formal education through Teacher’s College in Winnipeg. She spent her teaching career with River East Transcona School Division and Kurtis recalls Helen being his Substitute Teacher on many occasions; he claims she was the “toughest one around.”
Helen loved to share bright hope for the future from the Bible and had strong faith in the resurrection hope. “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more neither will mourning, nor cry, nor pain be any more the former things have passed away.” (Rev. 21: 3, 4) Helen had strong faith in the resurrection and knew that “God’s promises always come true.” (Isa. 55: 11)
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 10th at 2:30 at 930 Pandora Ave W or via Zoom for those who cannot attend. Masks are not mandatory but strongly recommended.
