LOW, David - Obituary Photo-gigapixel-standard-scale-2_00x.jpg

1972 - 2022

It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of David while surrounded by love following a brave battle with brain cancer at Riverview Palliative Care on Monday, July 4, 2022.

Mourning his loss are his sons Carson and Davis, his loving and devoted partner Shannon and daughter Peyton.

Also left to mourn are his parents Reg and Judy Low, sister Janet (Nick Chilas), nieces Tia and Anne Chilas, aunt Shiela Rabe (Bruce), cousin Sean Palmer (Tonya) their sons Ty and Jacob, the Robert, Hallock, Sousa and Jackson families as well as many long-standing friends.

David will be dearly missed by his golfing buddies at St. Charles Golf and Country Club. He especially loved the friendship with his group in the Saturday morning league.

David attended Linwood, Robert H. Smith, River Heights Junior High, and Grant Park High Schools.  He worked at Safeway Grant Park, Branigans and Boston Pizza Restaurants before joining his father in the family business (Sound Concepts).

During his youth David played football, baseball, soccer and hockey at River Heights Community Club as well as badminton at the Winnipeg Winter Club, playing badminton at both the provincial and national levels. He later moved on to squash at the Winnipeg Squash Club where he bonded with good friend Mark.

David had a lifelong passion for sports, especially football. From the age of five he attended nearly every Winnipeg Blue Bomber football game with his family. He was usually the loudest voice in the row and if you needed clarification on any ruling, David was sure to have the answer.

The family has fond memories of wonderful spring break ski holidays in Montana, Disney World visits and New Year’s get-away weekends with the Wilson family at various out-of-town resorts.

David was extremely proud of his sons and supported them in their sports, be it basketball or football, you would find David on the sidelines cheering them on. They will forever remember the fun annual trips to The Wisconsin Dells and many great basketball tournaments in North Dakota. David also embraced and cherished being a girl Dad, to Peyton. He loved watching her dance and even secretly joined Dancing Dads in 2020 in hopes of surprising everyone at her recital that year. David’s greatest treasure was his family, and his love for all of us knew no limits.

David had a keen interest in Minor Football and in 2013 became involved with the Fort Garry Lions eventually serving as president. In 2017, David was honored to be awarded the Brown-Ransby Award. During these years both Carson and Davis played in The Lions program. David later volunteered with MMFA, joining the board and finally serving as president from 2018-2021. In the fall of 2021, he was chosen for the position of Winnipeg High School Football Commissioner, a role, prior to his diagnosis, he had very much looked forward to fulfilling. David was passionate about giving back to community and was committed to serving these organizations. He cherished meeting, working alongside, and developing special friendships along this journey.

The family is most grateful to Shannon and her family for the wonderful loving care they provided for David as his health declined in his last months. Their compassion helped carry us all during this difficult time.

Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff and medical professionals at Riverview Palliative Care - 3rd floor east, for their loving care of David and support for our family. A special thank you to Colleen, Salina, Jodi and Maureen. You were our angels.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory are greatly appreciated, and may be made to Riverview Health Centre, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada or Football Manitoba.

“A Celebration Of Life” will be held for David on Monday, August 22, 2022 at St. Charles Golf and Country Club, 100 Country Club Blvd. between 2:00 and 4:00 pm.

Time for me to go now, I won’t say goodbye.

Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.

In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,

Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Time for me to leave you, I won’t say goodbye.

Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.

In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,

Just look for me and love me, and I’ll be close to you.

It won’t be forever; the day will come and then

My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we won’t say goodbye.

Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.

Every waking moment, and all your whole life through

Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Just wish me to be near you,

And I’ll be there with you.
