Coral McKendrick | Obituary | Ethical Death Care | Winnipeg

March 4, 1950 – January 1, 2024

Coral McKendrick of Winnipeg passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on January 1, 2024, after an extended period of ill health. Born on March 4, 1950, Coral was the daughter of the late James McKendrick and Mildred (Grantham) McKendrick.

Coral is survived by her nephew, Darren McLeod, and many close friends; several of these friends go back decades through her many career changes and volunteer roles. Coral was pre-deceased by her older sister Donna McKendrick in 2020.

Coral was a gifted writer. She wrote for the Winnipeg Tribune and freelanced for other publications over several years after graduating from the University of Manitoba. In later years before her health declined, she was active in Winnipeg’s Fringe Festival and co-founded and contributed to the Jenny Revue and awards. She was involved in the Winnipeg Folk Festival organizing the Green Room and was a playwright and producer of several theatre productions with the Manitoba Theatre Workshop, she was also a freelance theater, music, and restaurant critic.

Coral loved her cats and appreciated and enjoyed the close friendships she enjoyed over the many years. She was revered for her storytelling skills and for celebrating life by joining or hosting a good party.

Respecting Coral’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Instead of flowers donations can be made to the donation of your choice.

A celebration of Coral’s life will be held at a later date.
