* Details about a Celebration of Mark's Life can be found below *
August 4, 1958 - March 23, 2023
With great shock and sadness, the family of Mark McMurray announces his passing on March 23, 2023, at the age of 64.
Mark was predeceased by his mother Lois, his father Percy, and his brothers Blake, Allan and Dennis.
Mark will be lovingly remembered by Terri, his long-time partner of over 20 years along with her children and grandchildren: daughter Lindsay (Devon) Emmett & Avery, son Landon (Katie) Norah, and son Lorne (Natasha) Brayden, Autumn & Theodore.
Mark will also be greatly missed by his sisters Meaghan, Glenna and Gail, his nieces and nephew, his cherished friend Pete (Haley) and many other very good friends who turned into family over the years.
Mark was born in Flin Flon but moved to Snow Lake as a toddler, where he lived until he was 19. At the age of 9, he moved with his family to the lone house at Stall Lake Mine, five miles from town. It was while living at the mine in the middle of the bush that Mark developed a passion for trapping and fishing. He moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1977 after his father’s death. It was not an easy transition after growing up in the North, but Mark came to embrace Winnipeg as his home after living for short periods in Edmonton and Saskatoon.
Mark was hard working and a successful businessman. He worked over 10 years with Anderson General, had his own business for several years, and worked over 22 years with Green Line where he was well liked and “more than just an employee”. Mark was set to retire soon and was really looking forward to travelling across Canada with Terri.
Mark helped Terri raise Lindsay, Landon and Lorne and treated them as his own children, taking them on fishing trips and sharing his love of the outdoors with them. With his guidance, they all grew up to be successful adults and parents. Mark was very proud of the kids and loved being Papa to their children. He was constantly sending pictures of the grandchildren to his sisters.
While Mark loved to fish, he loved football even more. Sundays were reserved exclusively for the NFL. He loved nothing better than kicking back with a Miller Genuine Draft and cheering on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. During the summer, when football season was over, Mark was known for being an epic host. He held many gatherings at the house and around the pool with friends and family. Entertaining brought him a huge amount of joy. His door and fridge (fully stocked with MGD!) were always open. He took great pride in providing for the ones he loved. The pool won’t be the same without you Mark.
A friend, partner, father, grandfather and brother, Mark was one of a kind with a huge presence and booming personality to match.
Rest easy big guy, you will be sorely missed.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30-5:00pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at AW Buchanan Community Centre (in the black building between the skating rinks - behind the community centre) 861 Buchanan Boulevard.
Mark's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
