IAN MOORE MORROW

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ian Morrow on January 8, 2024, at the age of 90 years.

Ian will be forever remembered by his sons, David (Lena) and Douglas (Teresa); grandchildren, Geoffrey (Dayna), Hannah (Florent), Dylan (Maddy), Stewart, and Paige (Brett); great-grandchildren, Louie and Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Doreen (2021) and their cherished son Geoffrey (1984).

Ian had to grow up quickly. He had lost both parents by early adulthood, before contracting Polio during the epidemic of the early 1950’s, where he spent the better part of a year in the King George Hospital. With the help of his soon-to-be wife Doreen and her family, he recovered and still managed to complete his medical training.

His career was very important to him, but he would be uncomfortable to have his achievements define him. Simply put, his contributions in the field of diagnostic imaging and decades training many of today’s radiologists stands on its own merit. It was however more important that it gave him the opportunity to provide a home to nurture his family and entertain friends.

Ian was a great source of knowledge. Family and friends often sought him out for advice. He freely gave it, never preached, calmly explained, and always dosed with an appropriate amount of humour.

Ian and Doreen lived a quiet life during their final years, helping each other through their physical issues. They both knew what the future held and planned their lives accordingly. The more difficult it became for them, the more determined they were to persevere. This inner strength enabled them to stay in their family home together. Neither of them could walk and hadn’t been able to for several years, yet Ian remained Doreen’s primary caregiver until her passing.

Dedicated and supportive, humble, and determined, that is how we will remember Ian Morrow.

A gathering in his honour will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we would like to suggest that donations be made in Ian’s name to the Winnipeg Foundation - Geoffrey C. Morrow Memorial Fund, to benefit disadvantaged children.
