JAMES VERNE MULLETT

June 28, 1949 – October 9, 2019

After a lengthy illness, Jim Mullett, beloved husband of Shirley, passed away on October 9, 2019 at the age of 70.

 

Jim was born on June 28, 1949 in Sussex, New Brunswick to Vincent and Dorothy Mullett. He attended Brandon Collegiate and the University of Manitoba.  Jims career with troubled youth spanned 25 years with the departments of Youth Corrections and Child and Family services for the Province of Manitoba.

 

Shirley and Jim relocated to the Maritimes in 1997 where Jim completed journalism studies at Holland College in Prince Edward Island. He embraced and enjoyed his new career as a newspaper journalist and used it to experience numerous small towns in the Maritimes and Rural Manitoba. His passion for telling stories earned him recognition in the writing field and he received several awards for his work.

 

Jim had a passion for physical fitness, loved hockey, baseball and particularly loved to cycle. He was compassionate and caring in his volunteer work for The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Childfind and various food banks. He was known for his quick wit, his big laugh, his love of dogs, his love of history and current events and his insatiable appetite for reading and knowledge

 

Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shirley, his sister Valerie Komenda (Ben) and a niece and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Dorothy Mullett.

 

In accordance with Jims wishes, cremation took place and interment was held in the Brandon Cemetery where Jim will rest alongside his parents.
