DONALDA “DONNIE” JOAN ARKLIE

(née POOLE)

July 30, 1942 – December 27, 2024

A Photo Biography is forthcoming.

Please check back soon.

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and friend, Donalda (Donnie) Arklie (née Poole), on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the age of 82.

Donnie is lovingly remembered by her son, Grant Arklie (Krista); her daughter, Nadine Robinson (Mark); and her cherished grandchildren: Jordyn, Brooke, Marek, Kade, Cameron, Lauren, and Carson. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Cormier and Glenice McKeon (Bill). She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Jack Arklie; and her parents, Ken and Georgina Poole.

Donnie grew up in the St. James/Charleswood area of Winnipeg, attended school, and helped care for her sisters. She worked for the Royal Bank of Canada; it was there, where she met Jack, and the two began their love story. They married in 1964, and moved into their home on Country Club Boulevard in Westwood. Not long after, they started building a cabin on Lake of the Woods, where they experienced countless adventures and created enduring bonds. They built a life filled with love and family.

Donnie embraced motherhood with joy, devoting herself to raising her children and managing the family home. She cherished her Wednesday evenings and many afternoons spent playing bridge with the "Bridge Girls," forging lifelong friendships.

Generous with her time and energy, Donnie enthusiastically supported her children’s activities, whether it was hockey, Cub Scouts, gymnastics, Brownies, or school events. Her love for people and especially for children was evident to all who knew her. In her later years, she found immense joy in her grandchildren’s lives and in exploring the world through cruises and bus trips.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the home-care workers and staff at the Charleswood Long Term Care Home for their compassion in caring for Donnie during her final years. Donnie will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Donnie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba. A service date to be announced in the future.

Donnie’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Donnie was such a special friend for many years as we first met when we were only 14 years old.

Then we became neighbours and our friendship grew in so many ways.

For almost 55 years we shared a special bond as our families gathered for many occassions and celebrations.

Warm thoughts to Grant and Nadine and their families as they remember this loving Mother and Grandmother.

On behalf of Tom, Kathy, Scott & Cameron, Rest in Peace my Dear Friend.

We are so saddened to hear that Donnie has passed. She was a caring & loving friend, always willing to listen & go the extra mile for friends. We consider ourselves blessed in knowing Donnie & her husband Jack. Grant & Nadine as well as your families are in our hearts & prayers. Your family will always remain a part of our most cherished memories from the summers, Christmases and New Years that "The Arklie Bunch" & all the neighbors spent together at the lake.

Fondly and with our deepest sympathy,

Peter & Vera

If she lived on Shaftesbury Blvd. at one time we may have gone to school together.
