RUTH CHAMBERS

September 4, 1927 – September 14, 2024

Mom passed away Sept. 14, 2024 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg at the age of 97.

She was predeceased by her husband Stephen in 2016. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Runo; son Ron (Debbie); daughter Carolyn Hay (Frank); four grandchildren,  Neil, Alison, Brent, and Cameron; and nine great grandchildren, Ellis,  Shea, Ben, Lucas, Wesley, Sophia, Jesse, Anna, and Ruth.

Ruth was born in Winnipeg on Sept. 4, 1927. She always spoke about the love in her home growing up. She had three brothers, Henning, Runo, George; and sister Gloria.

As a young woman, Ruth enjoyed working at Eaton’s and the social aspect of working downtown in its heyday. She was taken aback by a handsome young man who asked her to dance… and later to marry. Steve and Ruth were married on Nov. 18, 1950 and settled in Arborg, Mb. where Steve and brother Walter ran a local International Harvester dealership before moving to Winnipeg.

In 1957, Ruth and Steve drove to Falcon Lake and decided to build a cottage which impacted the lives of several generations. At the lake Mom’s life revolved around her family, her garden, blueberry picking, golf, cards, badminton and Eagle Bay’s annual bay parties.

In Winnipeg Mom was very active golfing and socializing at Bel Acres and the Assiniboine Golf Clubs. Wherever she was, her sense of humour was unmistakable and good times were had whenever she entered.

Many winter years were spent in Florida, where many new friends were made playing golf and bridge.

Even though the last few years where challenging, she always spoke about her wonderful life and was thankful for her family. Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Tuxedo Villa in making Mom’s stay as comfortable as possible.

As Mom always said,

“One day at a time.”

Ruth’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Ruth Chambers was one of my favourite persons. She was always a cheerful person with a great sense of humor. We were neighbours at Falcon Lake for many years and I always enjoyed visiting with her because of her upbeat personality. I am sad at her passing, but will never forget her. My deepest sympathy to the family.

My condolences to Cal and Ron and your families. Ruth was a wonderful lady; kind and caring with a wicked sense of humor. I have many fond memories of times spent at Falcon with her and Steve golfing and playing bridge. She always made me feel like part of the family.

Hers was indeed a life well lived.

I will always remember my Auntie Ruth by bringing laughter in my life.My fondest memeries are at Falcon Lake playind badminton and cards. She had that wonderful sence of humour and could always give a swift answer to anything I said.My last memory of her is I was on my way to Kenora in 2019 and I stopped in at Falcon lake and I gave her and Cal a big hug when I came in.When I was leaving I had to give them both another big hug and I said it was almost like hugging my Mom.She will always be in my heart for the joy she brought in it.
