BARRY DOUGLAS ECKLUND

September 2, 1953 - April 18, 2023

Barry Douglas Ecklund passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side on April 18, 2023.

Barry was born to Keith and Gladys Ecklund on September 2, 1953. He spent his childhood years with his parents, siblings, and cousins on the farm which gave him a deep love for horses, especially his Shetland pony Patch.

As a young man Barry moved from the farm near Percival to Moose Jaw with his family, eventually trading in his love for horses to motorcycles and 18 wheelers.

While trucking, he met his first wife Gisela and had two sons, Ryan and Paul. As a natural entrepreneur he moved to Winnipeg to start a trucking company. He spent many successful years there building the company as well as getting his personal pilot’s license, golfing, fishing, and he even had partial ownership of a racehorse.

Barry eventually opted to move to Bissett for a quieter life. There he did many things including owning a tow truck, the gas station/garage and working at the gold mine. Marrying his beloved wife Lek in 2009 he found his greatest joy: operating a bed and breakfast with his “sweetie” at his side. The two were inseparable and loved each other dearly.

Barry was happiest in life when on horseback, a boat fishing, a motorcycle, driving a semi, flying a plane, golfing, travelling to Thailand, relaxing with a book, and especially playing crib or spending time with friends and family which meant so much to him.

Barry was predeceased by his greatly adored mother Gladys. He is survived by his devoted wife Lek; father Keith (Edna); sons, Ryan and Paul (Chrissy); siblings, Betty, Karen (Fran), and Rob (Leanne); as well as grandchildren, Kayden and Molly.

Barry had a loving heart and lived a very full, beautiful life brimming with adventures and will be missed dearly.

A celebration of Barry's life will be held 2pm at the Cosmo Seniors Centre on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at the Cosmo’s Senior Centre, 235 3rd Avenue NE, Moose Jaw SK.
