FREDERICK WARREN GILES

Surrounded by many loved ones, Fred passed away after a hard fought battle in the Intensive Care Cardiac Surgery unit at St. Boniface Hospital.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Sandy; children, Warren Giles, Tara Watt (Matt), Kira Jackson (David), and Sandy’s daughter Shauna Wyatt; grandchildren, Owen, Charlie, and Sadie; and honourary children, Brendy and Kim. Fred is also survived by his siblings, Noreen Ayotte (John), Mavis Lowenberger, Jackie Farmer (Bob), Laurie Giles (Fran), and Rhonda Kibsey; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a great, great niece. Fred will also be remembered by his in-laws, Ada Hart-Tkachuk (John), Cheryl Hart and Barry Hart. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Myrtle and father-in-law, Jerry Hart.

Fred was born in Winnipeg, MB to Fred and Myrtle Giles. He grew up in St.Vital, attending Glenwood and Glenlawn Schools. Fred was a great athlete that loved to play hockey, baseball, soccer, golf, horseshoes and cornhole. He focused on hockey, playing for Windsor and Glenwood Community Clubs, the Vics, the Saints and eventually the University of Winnipeg, Red River College and the Ambassadors.

Fred met Sandy on a blind date and the rest is history. Married for over 38 years, they raised their 3 children in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and the Okanagan. Their love for each other was epic and one could only hope to have such a devoted relationship. Fred loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and enjoyed coaching volleyball, soccer, baseball, and hockey. He also enjoyed following the Jets and Bombers through all their ups and downs.

Fred was a salesman at heart, working at Mercury Outboards, Lipton’s, Royal City Antiques and owning Linden Oak Furniture. He spent the later years of his working life at Canada Post, making friends with everyone he worked with.

Fred was known for his love of life, his sense of adventure and his “go for the gusto” attitude. He was the ultimate purveyor of parties, his most famous being his Freddie Fests. His love of music and having family and friends close was apparent through these events. Many of these great times were held at Lundar Beach where Fred and Sandy had a cottage. Fred welcomed everyone with open arms and because of him countless people have so many amazing memories, whether it was snowmobiling, ice fishing, seadooing, horseshoe tournaments, fireworks, or songs around the campfire.

Wherever Fred was, he was having fun, and making sure everyone else was too. His famously unique and contagious laugh will be remembered by all and his kind, funny, generous soul will be sorely missed.

A celebration of his life will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 at Windsor Community Centre

The family would like to thank the staff in the ICCS unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the dedicated and compassionate care they gave to Fred and the family.
