ADRAIN OWEN MILTON
June 3, 1962 - March 10, 2023
It is with a great deal of sadness to let the world know of the passing of Adrain Owen Milton (A.k.a. AJ)
Adrain passed away on March 10, 2023 after brief and sudden stay in hospital with family by his side. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Amber; Mother, Lillian Milton and Stepfather, Clyde Oliver; Sisters, Elaine; Winnie and brother, George.
He is survived by his son, Brandon (Alexa) of Halifax; daughter, Deidra (Sinclair) of Halifax; Son, Tyree of Winnipeg; Daughter, Avalina of BC and stepdaughter, Chanelle. Grandchildren; Taevia, Tristan, Tysin, Mekiel, Ariya and his partner of many years Melody.
Siblings; Lester, Sharon (Patrick), Roxanne, Steven (Pam), Mark (Cherylynn), Cheryll (Ulric) and Claudia (Matthew) along with many nieces and nephews.
Adrain was born June 3, 1962 in Lucasville, Nova Scotia. He had a personality bigger than life. His ability to make everyone around him feel at ease, smile and laugh with all his jokes. Funny gestures and nicknames he came up with for everyone were a true gift.
An avid athlete he would excel at any sport he would put his mind to especially basketball and football.
You could always count on sports to be on the TV whenever it was on.
Adrain loved playing cards. It was a trait he picked up at a young age from his mother, or sitting around the poker table with friends.
Over the years, one of our favourite family times was playing rummy. His competitive spirit always rose to the top. He nicknamed the win, “The belt” so we will let him have the final belt.
His entrepreneurial way of life was a hallmark of his personality. This was evident in his passion for Indigenous Art, when he became his own entrepreneur in the Art business.
Adrain loved to host and enjoyed cooking, having the ability to turn a simple dish into a gourmet meal. His specialties, though was cooking steaks and seafood.
If he wasn’t cooking, he loved to order, pizza and wings for whoever was around.
He also loved his music one of his favourite groups, being Fleetwood Mac and you just knew it would always be on his playlist.
Family meant a lot to him, whether they lived near or far and loved all his children deeply.
In his son Tyree’s words, he will truly miss the heart-to-heart talks over everything and anything, and took his dads advice and guidance serious. He will miss Sunday sports day, watching basketball and football and often betting on games together also the odd workouts. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for him.
He feels as though he has lost his best friend and a piece of his soul when he passed and will miss him more than anything as life moves on.
For his stepdaughter. She will miss Playing rummy, scratching lotto tickets, laughing at his jokes and funny impersonations, good times while listening to music and helping him cook. She will always appreciate the fact that he took her under his wing and treated her no differently than his own, and became like a father figure in her life.
For her children, he was known as “Big” or “Papa” they enjoyed the times swimming in the pool and all the water fights, the play wrestling, sleepovers, watching movies and just being around him, as he was always the life of the party.
For his sister Cheryll, niece Larissa and nephew Johnny they had a special relationship, family barbeques drinks by the fire and good food. Adrain always making sure their bellies were full and the laughs between Cheryll and Adrain as they share childhood stories and memories from growing up in Nova Scotia will truly be missed.
In the words of his nephew Johnny. His “Uncle the Bunkle” as he called him, left him with fond memories of going to the YMCA, playing basketball and football from a young age into adulthood from family gatherings, movies, drinks, and just his presence whenever he was around, always making him laugh, and having a way to pull everyone together. He looked at him as more of a father figure, than an uncle and will truly miss him.
For those who were lucky to have met him or form of friendship which came easy, knew they had a true friend for life. Adrain had many struggles in life, but to his family he was always more than his struggles.
In my own words, the passing of Adrain has left a void in my heart too big to be filled, but has left me with a lot of beautiful memories too many to share, but will last a lifetime. The bond in love for each other was our own story, the only person to try and conquer my fear of heights by taking me to the top of the CN Tower, on one of our trips out east.
Until we meet again, I’ll never stop loving you and will always be your “Mel-Mel” as you called me. Our navigation through life will feel different and look different for all who knew you, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of your children. Missing you like crazy; you were a real OG.
Rest well my love, our father, brother uncle, Papa, Cousin, and Friend.
Our family extends their gratitude to all the staff, doctors, nurses and healthcare aids from Health Science Centre (MICU) for their care.
We will be celebrating the life of Adrain on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. at The Leaf (Assiniboine Park) 2nd floor event room, 145 Locomotive Drive.
Cremation has already taken place.
