Emile Pilotte

JOSEPH AIME “EMILE” PILOTTE
A.K.A. “BRONCO”
February 27, 1940 – April 2, 2025
Emile Pilotte (loving known as Bronco) was born February 27, 1940. He passed away April 2, 2025. Emile recently celebrated his 85th birthday.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Left to mourn his passing is Marjorie, his wife of 62 years; daughter Lita Hornan (Michael); son Blair Pilotte; granddaughters, Erin (Andrew) and Maegan (Rick); great grandchildren, Declan and Kassia; brother Henri Pilotte; sister-in-law Janice Kowbel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His first grandchild, Erin, stole Grandpa’s heart. With the arrival of Maegan, his happiness was complete. As little girls, they would read bedtime stories to Grandpa until he fell asleep. Then it was time for milk and cookies with Grandma.
Family was everything to Emile. He never missed an opportunity to ask for a hug. His life was full of laughter and joy.
Marj and Emile’s life together spanned many decades, countless friends, and adventures.
There were trips to Hawaii with their children, road trips in the Walleye Express, motorhome winters in Texas, and lazy summer days at the Kowbel Hilton on Lake of the Woods.
Much anticipated were the annual summer barbecues at the farm on Kokomo Road. This event produced many legendary stories.
Whether in Texas, at the lake, or at their home in Kirchhoff Gardens, happy hour was a time to be enjoyed with friends, family, and a cold beer.
Emile always worked hard, whether the job was operating large equipment, farming, hauling dangerous goods, or as a burger flipper extraordinaire. He was always the first to offer a helping hand. In later years one of his favourite jobs was watering “Marj’s” flowers.
Emile always counted his blessings and lived a long and full life. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
In accordance with Emile’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, please give your loved ones a big hug.
Emile’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A more caring and loving human would be hard to find. Emile, you will be missed dearly. We had some really fun times... I still remember you eating your cabbage roll with a toothpick at one of my Ukrainian themed dinners.... you didn't order a fork with your meal.... mind you Ukrainian is hard to read...lol! I'll miss rubbing your soft hair but not as much as I will miss you. ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

My heart is broken.., I was 14 years old when my sister Marj brought Bronco home. He immediately became the big brother I never had. He won my parent's hearts. I met my future husband(Gerry) at Marj and Bronco's wedding . Bronco walked me down the aisle after my Dad died suddenly . How do I even begin to tell how important he was in my life and the lives of my children?
He has always been just "Bronco" to me and "Uncle Bronco" to my kids. When he came through the door at my house the first thing he asked was"Jan when are we having prime rib?".
He could often been found with a fishing rod and a beer in hand. He was always the first to offer to man the barbecue at the CarolChanning Classic Croquet Tournament and he only put down the flipper when the last person was fed. He loved to tease, that is something every child that came within six feet of him learned very quickly.
Underneath that laughter was a strong man with a huge heart who cared deeply. He and Marj were there for me when Gerry passed away. His strong hugs were given freely and you knew they were deep and genuine. He and Marj built a wonderful life together with Lita and Blair and their families. I am so grateful for the place he held in my life and in my heart. He will be forever missed by the so many lives he touched in his time on this Earth. Rest well,Bronco...
There is another Bright Star in the night sky.

It is tough to lose anyone that you know but a lot harder when it is someone you have been friends with for 75 plus years. Bronco and I had a couple of beers just after his 85th born day and shortky before my 85th. Another one of our good chats.
I have fond memories of our youth in Transcona and we were both thankful it was before the era of cell phones and related technology.
The 'gang' of Bronco and Marj, Bill and Elsie, Dave and Mary, Lynne and I, came into being as we married the girls of our dreams The ladies became close friends and remained so over the years. The 'nieces' and 'nephews' arrived in due course and these bonds remain today. Many a good time had by all over the years.
The Kokomo Road gatherings - enough on this subject.
The gatherings at our place in West Hawk Lake, before and after the arrival of children, were some of the good times enjoyed by the 'gang'.
Sincere condolences to Marj, Lita, Blair and the extended family.
Remember the good times.
Rest in Peace my friend.
Don and Lynne Bruce.

The great memories I have of Bronco have lasted for years. Many a BBQ at the Kowbel hangout on Rabbit Lake.
Laughter and plenty of shenanigans with Bronco, Marj and the rest of the motley crew.
Rest well Bronco and my sincere condolences to Marj, Lita, Blair and families.

They say in order to build a great wall, you must start by laying the first brick as perfectly as possible. Then the rest follows.
To me that pretty much sums up simply and deeply who Uncle Bronco was to our family. We will always remember his laughter and a voice that would reach beyond the cheap seats. Which was always full of giggles knowledge and light teasing to keep you on your toes. More often then not, Swiftly follwed by "okay don't get them to riled up dinners almost ready" ;)
Our summer days will become a bit softer with uncle passing on but there is a chuckle to be had at the thought, I don't know if they are ready up there for "THE BOYS" to be together again. :)
Love you "Unc"

For the short time that I knew Emil it was always a wonderful time and Marj and him would come to visit at the lake, I would try to entice him to speak French and we would carry on a short conversation, it was nice. He was a major part of any gathering of the family and especially of the younger ones that he would tease relentlessly, what a hoot. He took care of his Marj and vice versa, it was nice to see. I will miss your jovial and youngish manner Bronco and that full head of hair.
I also promise to keep switching your tires for Marj and before I forget you owe me 2 boxes of Kleenex, take care Bronco and happy fishing.

Uncle Bronco always gave the best hugs....it was a true loving hug with a good strong squeeze.....you could feel the love, happiness and joy every time.
When Reed and Tess were born he was the greatest with them......holding them when they were infants and as they grew on the ground playing with them.... just being his loveable crazy self.

Uncle Bronco was truly a one of a kind person. He was kind, quick to laugh and tease! I lived with Aunty and Uncle briefly and during that time I broke the back driveway fence lol, uncle never let me live that down! I remember staying with them when I was little, at the farm- going in the barn with uncle's supervision and petting the little piglets, running around with Georgie, eating veggies straight from the garden! The BBQ's were epic and I have great memories! We were blessed to have you in our lives, You will be missed Uncle, rest easy.
Sending lots of love to Aunty Marj, Lita and Blair

Uncle "snag" you will be greatly missed.
For the many times you were there, you would always bring laughter and fun stories to the party. Although i never believed all of those stories, they were great and brought out the positive energy.
Rest well, and catch all the fish you can without getting snagged! *Cheers*

When I think of Uncle, I think of the joy he brought and that infectious laugh. Even though I was quite young at the Kokomo Road summer BBQs and only have glimpses of memories, somehow I can still hear his laughter in every one of them.
It’s so true what everyone says—he was always ready to lend a hand. If he wasn’t chasing after screaming, laughing kids in the summer (how did he have that kind of energy?), he was jumping in to BBQ.
He was a truly wonderful uncle. Sending so much love to Auntie Marj, Blair, and Lita. He is so deeply missed.
