IRVIN DENNIS UNGER

March 6, 1958 - August 27, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irvin Dennis Unger, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, on August 27, 2025, at the age of 67.

Irvin grew up in St. Vital and made many lifelong friends, including his best friend Rainer, who he shared a bond that lasted throughout his life.

In 1978, Irvin married Debbie Zacharias, and together they raised two children, Eric (Elise) and Jennifer (Lin). He was a proud grandfather to Anna and Eve, who brought him great joy.

Irvin was a man of few words, but his love was steady and unmistakeable. He carried a quiet strength and a protective streak that often showed in unexpected ways. When his daughter moved into her first place, he stood watch at her window so the world would know that someone was looking out for her. His care appeared in small powerful but powerful gestures - a watchful glance, a few quiet bills tucked into a hand, or simply his presence reminding his family they were never alone.

He loved hockey, camping, and especially woodworking and carving. Though his health limited him in recent years, he never lost the spark that made his garage a second home and gathering place.

Irvin is predeceased by his parents; his in-laws; and three sisters-in-law. He leaves behind his wife Debbie; his children, Eric (Elise) and Jennifer (Lin); his granddaughters, Anna and Eve; and extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.

He will be remembered for his strength, his quiet devotion, and the unique ways he showed his love. His family takes comfort in knowing that, in spirit, he is still standing guard - just as he always did.

He will be greatly missed.

Irvin’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

My deepest condolences to Debbie, her family and the Ungers. I found these pictures in an old photo album. Two from their stag and two at their wedding. Hard to believe it was almost 50 years ago. I know my ex Rainer cherished his friendship with Irvin.

Very sad to hear of Irvin's passing, my condolences to Debbie, his son and daughter and his grandchildren. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet you Debbie, I met Irvin through his older brother Larry. I spent some time as a kid growing up on Sadler Ave. In St.Vital down the street from the Unger family. Larry, myself and a couple of other friends used spend time at his house horsing around and Irvin would sometimes be included. He was a great young kid and we all genuinely liked him. Easy going and a fun guy, I'm sure he was an awesome husband, dad, and grandfather. Sorry for your loss.
