JIM BRIAN WOLFE

It is with heavy hearts we announce Jim’s passing on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the age of 69.

Jim’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife Judi, of 42 years and their three sons Colin (Angela), Scott (Kayla), and Brett (Meg) and brothers Greg (Janette) and Brad (Lorena).  He also leaves to grieve, sisters-in-law Phyllis Reader (Ron), Shirley Nicholson (Neil), Gail Stafford, and brothers-in-law David Martin (Corey), Roy Martin (Lorna), as well as many nieces & nephews. 

Jim was born on February 8, 1950 to Peter and Teenie Wolfe. He grew up in Altona, Manitoba and it was at Miller Collegiate that he developed a love for basketball. He left Altona for the University of North Dakota and then transferred to University of Manitoba where he pursued his degree while playing basketball.

Jim worked in Provincial and Federal Corrections for 28 years. He started as a Probation Officer and held many positions until he left in 2004 as Assistant Deputy Minister. He then worked for Health Canada as the Regional Director of the First Nations Inuit Health Branch before retiring in 2013. Many valued friendships were developed throughout his career, some of which he still maintained after retirement. 

Jim was a people person and took great interest in those around him. He was able to talk to anyone, whether he had known them for years or just met them for the first time. Jim’s family was his deepest love and his greatest priority. He was exceptionally proud of his three boys. He passed on his love of basketball and other sports to his sons and actively participated in all their sporting activities at Kirkfield Westwood Community Centre and Westwood Collegiate. He volunteered on the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association  board for ten years. Jim loved spending time with his family at the cottage on Netley Creek and enjoyed travelling, as his health permitted. We’ll miss his great sense of humor and how he brought fun to every situation and he will be in our hearts and souls forever. He was so happy knowing his first grandchild would be arriving in October and the second grandchild in November. 

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Hammond, Dr. Homick and Dr. Sherene Guindy who treated Jim for many years in his battle with lung disease. Thanks also to the Community IV program (especially nurses Wendy, Maria and Mary) for their care and support. 

Cremation and Celebration of Jim’s Life have taken place however the family courages the sharing of stories, memories, or condolences for the family by using the comments section on this page.

In Jim’s memory, contributions may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association or to the Winnipeg Harvest.
