September 24, 1925 – June 27, 2023
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Omelan (née Rouble) of Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 27, 2023, at the age of 97.
Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her son Glenn (Debi), granddaughters Melissa (Joe), Megan (Corey), and her four great grandsons William, Eric, Ethan, and Carter, as well as numerous family members including her nieces, nephews, and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, William “Bill” Omelan, and her four siblings, Alexander, Steve, Sophie and Anne.
Elsie was the youngest of her four siblings, was born in Winnipeg, MB September 24, 1925. Elsie met Bill, while they were both working at Globe Light and they later married in 1947. In March of 1953, Elsie and Bill welcomed their first and only child Glenn. Elsie spent many years working for Eatons, in both the mail order and optical departments.
Elsie loved to travel and took many trips to visit friends and family. Whenever possible, Elsie would escape the harsh Winnipeg winters to visit her brother Alex and sister-in-law Lee in California. Elsie kept herself busy taking great pride in her prized 50 plus year old Begonias, and kept her mind sharp doing word searches and crosswords. Elsie loved opportunities to gather as a family especially when feeding her loved ones with her homemade pedaheh and holubtsi.
Having lived 97 years one can only imagine the huge amount of change and world events Elsie witnessed. Through the years Elsie’s memories remained vivid and when asked, she would always have a story to tell about the events she had experienced in her life. Most of all Elsie loved spending time with her family and friends.
Elsie will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
In accordance with Elsie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
Elsie's family would like to thank all the staff at the Grace Hospice for their care, kindness, and compassion.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
