April 14, 1955 – January 24, 2022

It is with profound sadness we announce that Uwe passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his family, following a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.

He will be lovingly missed by his mother Inge; brother Ralph; sister Karen; nephew Erik; good  friend Gordon; many friends & cottage neighbours, as well as numerous relatives in Germany. Uwe was predeceased by his dad Paul in 2004.

Uwe was born in Reutlingen, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his parents. They settled in Winnipeg, where Uwe lived all of his life.

Uwe graduated with a degree in Computer Science at the University of Manitoba in the days when they used “boxes upon boxes of punch cards”!  Uwe was always the family “go to” person when a computer broke down or malfunctioned.  A number of years ago Uwe’s computer skills and patience were put a true test-  when he announced “he was  going to teach Mom how to use the computer!”   (Now this may be a coincidence – but that’s  when the grey hair started). But -  persevered he did!  Mom now knows how to use a computer and tablet with amazing proficiency.

Uwe was the oldest of 3 siblings and first to buy a car.  Uwe & Ralph sure learned a LOT about cars and car repairs from Dad in the days when you could open the hood and ‘still fix your own car’.

Uwe enjoyed a variety of career interest including: microcomputer software development; computer programing; teaching outdoor adventure skills, as well as, volunteer mentor helping those with limited computer skills. His hobbies included sport cars;  photography; calligraphy; model railroading; robotics; computers;  oil painting; camping; canoeing, and many outdoor recreational activities.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre and Victoria General Hospital oncology departments for their deep level of commitment, caring and compassion shown to Uwe over the years.

In lieu of flowers, consideration of a donation to either Cancer Care Manitoba or Siloam Mission (Winnipeg) would be appreciated.

A private service and interment will be held at a later date.

We miss you Uwe - Rest in Peace
