(née MacRae)

February 20, 1947 - September 9, 2023

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Heather Routledge (née MacRae) on September 9 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Heather was the daughter of Eldridge “Mac” and Jean MacRae. She was raised in Fredericton, NB with her three brothers. Heather was a source of joy and pride to her family and a tough act for her two younger brothers to follow. She was a straight A student throughout school; the editor of the high school yearbook; received a scholarship for university and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science with honors. On graduation, she happily accepted a job offer from Transport Canada as a meteorologist. She was stationed in Winnipeg and never left. She liked the city; her work and colleagues, and it is here she met her future husband and lifelong companion Robert “Bruce” Routledge.

Heather had challenges. She suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis, illnesses that greatly reduced her quality of life. She endured the illnesses without complaint and when asked how she was the answer was almost always I'm fine.

Heather’s condition declined rapidly in her last week and her brothers wish to express their gratitude to the Grace Hospital staff, her Routledge family, Kevin and in particular Laura and Cathy who were with Heather at the end. She will be missed

Heather is survived by her husband Bruce; as well as, on the MacRae side, by her brothers David (Marilyn), Ian (Wes), and Alan (Marina); 3 nieces; 3 nephews; 2 great nephews; and a great niece; and on the Routledge side, by sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Routledge and Patricia Jean Giekes; 7 nephews; 3 nieces; 8 great nephews; 10 great nieces; 5 great great nephews; and 6 great great nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Charleswood Care Centre for the care they showed Heather.

Heather was 76, she will be interred in the Wilmot Rural Cemetery, Fredericton NB.

In Accordance with their wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Heather’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
