STOCKBURN, Gail - Obit Phot.jpg

March 4, 1947 – March 13, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce that Gail passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023.

She is predeceased by her Mum and Dad; sister-in-law Theresa; brother Brian and her nephew Stuart.  She is survived by her siblings Don, George (Ruth), and Patricia; and nieces, nephews, Don Jr, (Dawn); Kelly (Chris); Joshua (Sarah); Aileen (Aaron); Nathan (Ali); and grand-nieces and nephews Brendin, Skye, Cameron, Ryan, Emma and Josephine.  As well as the Stockburn family and Cauz family

Over the years Gail worked for the Winnipeg Police Department, University of Manitoba, family services, waitressing and bartending, advertising, the oil industry, and in law firms.  She always set out to enjoy her work and her life and brought everyone along for the ride.  Gail has friends from all walks of life because she always cared about other people and was always interested in what they had to say.  That was her strength.  She was a lover of theatre, books, music and having wonderful adventures.

The accomplishment that Gail was most proud of was graduating with a degree from the University of Toronto in 1993.  Although it took her a number of years to accomplish, she worked hard and accomplished what she set out to do.

In 1997 she left for England.  She spent twelve wonderful years working as a legal assistant during the day and started her career as the on-air radio personality and music aficionado Gail Comfort at night.   In 2009 she moved back Canada to help her parents and she finally settled back in Winnipeg.  In Winnipeg, she again worked as a legal assistant during the day and she had a show on UM-FM called The Comfort Café.

Gail loved to organize parties, events and adventures.  She was always the life of the party and always made sure everyone had a good time.  Her wonderful smile and great laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful medical staff and caregivers we met along the way.  Also, a special thank you to all Gail’s friends and family who loved, helped and supported her through the years.  You know who you are!

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday April 5, 2023 at The Crescent Fort Rouge United Church at 525 Wardlaw Avenue, Winnipeg, Man, R3L 0L9. For the health and safety of family and friends, please consider wearing a mask.
