Dean passed away on May 5th, 2023 at the Holy Family Nursing Home. A celebration of life was held at the Brooklands Weston Legion on May 12th.
He is predeceased by his father Jack, mother Elsie, brothers Doug and Ron, and twin sisters Linda and Loreen. He leaves behind his sister Ila Vivier of Calgary, sister Cynthia Smith and her husband Jay of Winnipeg, and his brother John Vivier of Winnipeg, in addition to many nieces, nephews and others.
We are so grateful for the thoughtful, gentle, and respectful manner of care Dean received during his final days at Holy Family. The staff were in and out of his room, holding his hand, and just providing comfort in any way they could. As she examined Dean a final time, his doctor wrapped a beautiful rosary around his hands in a gesture of compassion. Two days before Dean passed he received his last rites, administered by Father Lukie. We greatly thank all the staff at Holy Family for the excellent care Dean received throughout his stay there.
Dean was born in Portage la Prairie in 1948 third son to Jack and Elsie Vivier. Dean spent many years as a commercial and residential painter. In later years, Dean attended school at Plains Indian Cultural Survival in Calgary where he obtained his high school diploma. When our Mom left Calgary for Winnipeg in 1989 Dean promptly followed. He always promised he would never leave his mother.
Dean enjoyed fishing, playing cards and bowling. He was in a bowling league for a number of years. He was also an avid reader and loved war and western novels, especially by Louis L’Amour. He was also a fan of country and western music. His favourite being Johnny Horton with songs like “Whispering Pines,” “Sink the Bismark!” and “North to Alaska,” just to name a few.
Dean was well loved by his family and his many friends.
He will be sadly missed, but will remain in all our hearts forever.
Dean’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
