Shirley Warkentin

WARKENTIN, Shirley - Obituary Photo.png

(née SHARP)

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Shirley Jane Warkentin. Beloved mother of Jeremiah and Laura. Dearest daughter of the late George and the late Albina Sharp (Gach). Kindest sister to Theresa (Sault Ste. Marie) and to the late Gordon and family. Spouse of the late Arno. Aunt to several nieces and nephews, and cousin to many others. Shirley’s joy was the relationships she had cultivated over a lifetime, especially her family, but also Lisa, Rick and Lynne, Marina, and the ladies from her school days who joined her for lunch each month. She always had a smile on her face and was very thankful for all the people in her life.

Shirley’s dedication to those she cared for is reflected in the many, many years she spent as caregiver for her parents after her father suffered his stroke. Her sister, Theresa, is very grateful for her kindness and all the time she spent doing this, as are all who cared for George and Albina. The love and affection she exhibited during this period embody her spirit and willingness to give all for those in her life.

Shirley spent many years working for Perimeter Concrete, only recently retiring. Her passion to explore drove her to travel and try new experiences, a pursuit she had hoped to continue after a lifetime of commitment to others.

Jeremiah, Laura and Theresa are very thankful for the support that Shirley received from her friends over the years and especially during the last months of her illness. We will love and miss her for the rest of our lives.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes the family will have a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to one of the many causes Shirley cared about. The family would like to suggest the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Humane Canada, causes important to Shirley.
