Maureen Lael Black died peacefully on August 27, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved daughter of Marilyn and Robert Black.

She is survived by her cherished mother Marilyn; her children Chelsea Gibbons (granddaughter Luna), Sacha Nelson, Chloe Nelson (Daniel Ross) and Mackenzie Nelson; her siblings Michelle, Harry (Susan), Peter (Susan), Jeff (Karen), Rial (Elly), Randy (Natalie) and Jamie (Mariana) as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father Robert in 2014 and her niece Lael in 2008.

Maureen was a proud graduate of St. John’s High School. She had a fighter’s spirit, which was evidenced by her passion for boxing and fitness. Maureen will be remembered by her family and friends for her generosity, kindness and enormous heart.

She was the beneficiary of outstanding care by the members of the Health Sciences SICU team and the family remains ever grateful for the compassion showed during her brief stay in hospital.

Flowers are gratefully declined, and in lieu thereof, donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, PW112-700 William Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0Z3.

A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6:30p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the outdoor patio of Stella’s Café and Bakery au CCFM, 340 Provencher Boulevard.
