MARK ANTHONY CARREIRO

May 2, 1984 - December 19, 2020

Our beloved Mark Anthony Carreiro, of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away on December 19, 2020 following a battle with Covid-19.

Mark was born with a mission to inspire everyone around him.  His long and difficult medical journey began at only three months of age when he began having multiple seizures daily following his pertussis vaccination.

What followed for his family was truly a mission to find answers and unravel the mysteries of his situation.  Mark taught so many lessons to those who loved him, including how to accept differences.   His early years growing up at home surrounded by his large extended family enriched our lives in so many ways.

Mark moved to St. Amant when he was fifteen years old.  Here he found his beloved second family, who cared for him in his final years in a way that was beyond what we could have ever hoped for.  The love that staff gave to Mark was like no other love and will be carried in our hearts.

Mark surpassed the expectations of his childhood doctors by thirty years, and his family is so incredibly grateful to have had those years with our sweet fighter.

Mark leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Odette Carreiro (Dave McDougall) and Paulo Carreiro (Lucia Flora); brother, Nicholas Carreiro (Katie Magotiaux); loving aunties and uncles; many, many cousins; as well as his special St. Amant family. He was predeceased by his grandparents John Costa, Antonio, and Esmeria Carreiro and his cousin, Jessica who will be embracing him now in heaven.

Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, a big celebration of his life will be held at St. Amant at a future date.  Cremation has taken place and Mark will be in his mother’s care until he can be laid in his final resting place with his Avos.  The family would like to encourage Mark’s friends and family to honor his memory by sharing your memories, stories, and photos by making use of the comment section on this page.

The family would like to thank the ICU team and Pastor Jason at St. Boniface Hospital for the superior care and respect they gave to Mark.  Thanks also go to the staff at Ethical Death Care for their compassionate service during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Amant Centre, A memory card will be sent to family.

Be free Mark Anthony, your loved ones will be smiling and thinking of you until we meet again.
