RANA KAVAL CHOHAN

March 25, 1931 - January 21, 2020

Rana Kaval Chohan passed peacefully in the Poseidon Personal Care Home, surrounded by loved ones, on January 21, 2020 at 9:15 pm, in Winnipeg Manitoba, at the age of 88.

Kaval is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Chohan, his son Vijay, his daughters Sahera, Meera, and Melina, as well as his grandchildren Vikas and Vishal. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers.

Kaval was born on March 25, 1931 in Sarhal Mundi, India. He studied and received degrees from Punjab University, London University (UK), University of Manitoba,  and a graduate degree from Michigan State University.

Kaval began his teaching career in London England and moved to Winnipeg to teach with the Winnipeg School Division in 1963. He then spent the majority of his career there as a Principal.

His friends and family remember him as a man of impeccable style and manners.

Kaval was a dedicated individual who spent 15 years volunteering with the RCMP as an Auxiliary Constable. He was passionate about helping new immigrants as they transition to life in Canada. He served on the board of the International Center for over 20 years. He also served on the Winnipeg Teachers Association executive for six years.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday January 31, 2020 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kaval’s life.
