PAT ELLIOTT

PATRICIA ELLIOTT

March 15, 1946 - March 4, 2020

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Pat Elliott on March 4, 2020.

Pat was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Keith. She is survived by her three sons Steven, Douglas, and James, along with her sister Debra and brothers Jim and Carl, her Aunt Pat and her beloved grandchildren.

Born in rural Ontario on March 15, 1946, Pat was raised by her Uncle Bill and Aunt Pat. Living in New Brunswick, she met and married her husband Keith on October 14, 1966 and started her own family shortly after that. Being a military wife, she moved with her family across Canada before settling in Winnipeg in 1983.

Pat trained as a nurse at the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1969. After raising her sons, Pat entered the profession in earnest in 1980. After moving to Winnipeg, Pat took up her chosen profession with a passion and spent many years as a personal care home nurse and manager. She took an active interest in the Manitoba Nurses’ Union, acting as president of her Local and sitting at the bargaining table during Collective Agreement negotiations. Nursing was a career that brought her great fulfillment both professionally and personally, as well as introducing her to many lifelong friends.

When she retired from an impressive nursing career with more than 40 years of service, she focused her attention on her other passion, her grandchildren. Pat was a doting grandmother, always finding time to attend Winter concerts, school plays, awards ceremonies, graduations and almost all sporting events as well as birthdays, dinners and special occasions. She took constant pride in the activities and achievements of her grandchildren, sharing their accomplishments and her great love for them was obvious to all around her.

Keeping active in her retirement, Pat joined the Southdale Seniors and the Bling Sisters – a chapter of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed the games, activities and company of the groups sharing her escapades with her friends and family. Over time she became more involved with Southdale Seniors helping to write a recent successful federal government grant and eventually becoming its Chair Person.

Pat was an extremely giving and kind soul, always concerned for the care and comfort of others. Her absence will be deeply felt by her many friends and family.

A Celebration of Pat’s Life will take place at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2020 at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church). In keeping with Pat’s wishes all attending are asked to wear bright, cheerful clothing.
