JAMES HOOPER

July 31, 1949 – September 23, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that Jim passed away on September 23, 2021 at his home.  He was born to Mary and James Hooper in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland.  The family emigrated to Canada in December of 1957, settling in Winnipeg where he spent the rest of his life.  He especially enjoyed his trip back to Scotland with his Dad where they visited family and places familiar to Jim from his early childhood.

While growing up, Jim attended Prince Edward, Munroe Jr. High and Miles MacDonnell schools in East Kildonan and then embarked on a career with MTS for over forty years before retiring.

Jim made friendships easily with those he encountered both while growing up and in his adult years.  He had a great sense of humor and a willingness to help anyone who asked and was only limited by physical ailments in his later years.  He was a kind hearted and loving person who enjoyed telling jokes and stories to liven up gatherings where a few “beverages” were often involved.

Jim was a proud member of the Khartum Temple of the Shrine and helped organize the children’s Christmas parties over the years.   When younger, he also enjoyed a good fishing trip with friends.

Left to mourn are his children Kelly-Anne, Tricia Young (Dave), Andrew and their mother Sharon Coates; his sisters Frances Ross, Joyce Hooper and Mary Kathleen Johnston.  He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Glen Ross and great-nephew Gregg Johnston.

He will be sadly missed by his children, niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who really looked forward to seeing Uncle Jim at our Christmas gatherings followed by a lively game of Trivial Pursuit or Pictionary.

As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and immediate cremation has taken place.  Rest in peace, Jim!
