Janette Johnstone

JOHNSTONE, Janet - Obit Photo.jpg

JANET FREW SHIELDS JOHNSTONE

(née CLARK)

December 19, 1946 – July 22, 2022

Janette passed away peacefully with her family by her side July 22nd, the day before her wedding anniversary with her late husband Tom, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.

She is survived by her children Elizabeth Carriere (Les) and Graham Johnstone (Amanda); grandchildren James Carriere (Bethany) and Kate Carriere (Mason); her sister Ann Northwood; her sister-in-law Lynn Adair in Scotland; and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Janette was predeceased by her loving husband Tom, her parents, her brother Ramsay Clark and her brother- and sister-in-law Bill and Maureen Johnstone.

Janette was the eldest child born to Ramsay and Elizabeth Clark in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland.  She grew up and got into plenty of mischief in the Girdle Toll with her sister and brother until her marriage to Tom on July 23, 1966.  Together, they moved to Winnipeg four short days later to raise a family.  They were soon followed by Ann, then Ramsay and then by their parents.  In Winnipeg, as well as on their travels far and near, they made many lifelong, dear friendships.

Above and beyond all else, Mum cherished her family and friends.  She was the glue that kept the communication going and would do anything for those she loved.  A very close second was shopping…clothes, shoes, home furnishings, gadgets, you name it.  And, like a true Scot, what a bargain!

A celebration of her life will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the St. James Legion, 1755 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.

“If there’s another world, she lives in bliss;

If there is none, she made the best of this.”
