WILLIAM GRANT JONES

January 4, 1954 – December 29, 2021

After a courageous battle with cancer, Grant passed away on December 29, 2021, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 67.

He is survived by his partner Shannon, daughter Brin, sister Carol Guest (Gary), nephews Ryan Guest (Amy) and Cory Guest (Sarah), great nephews Tylar, Cooper and Zachary, stepchildren Ferron (Pierry) and Anthony and former spouse Jody.  He was predeceased by his parents Russell and Mildred Jones.

Grant was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived in St. Vital for most of his life, spending every summer at Victoria beach. His foremost passion in life was his music. A brilliant jazz guitarist, he was a greatly valued member of Winnipeg’s music community and performed for many years at the Paragon. More recently, you may have heard him playing at the Hotel Fort Garry, Inferno’s Bistro, and Resto Gare. Grant was educated as an engineering technician and worked as a certified health and safety consultant in his later years, a field he was deeply dedicated to. Grant loved to cycle, swim, and kayak. He also held a black belt in karate, which he taught with his signature enthusiasm and patience to the kids in Thompson during our “northern adventure”.

Grant was a wonderful listener with the ability to make everyone feel special and heard. He also had a wicked sense of humour, right until the last. He was so loving and kind; always putting others before himself even in his last months. He was a thoughtful and gracious partner, father, brother, and uncle who will be profoundly missed.

Grant’s family would like to express our deep gratitude to the many friends who offered their unwavering love and support during this difficult time. We would also like to thank his palliative care nurses Anita and Dustin, homecare workers Tamara, Stacy, and Svetlana and the staff at Riverview for their excellent care. Special thanks as well to Dr. Wiebe and her team for their kindness and compassion.

Grant’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Accordance with Grant’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of Grant’s life is planned for early summer and will be communicated at that time. If friends so desire a donation may be made in Grant’s name to the charity of their choice.
