JACK DAVID LANG

September 18 1950 - August 24 2022

Born Klaus-Jurgen Karl Lang, in Wuppertal Germany, to parents Karl Wilhelm Lang and Lucie Georgette (nee: Dietrich), Jack was a: Loving and devoted husband to Lynne, A Loving, devoted & proud father to Michelle (Kevin), Nicole and Donald; and a loving devoted and button bursting proud Papa to Jack and Zachary Ventnor, and Zoey Zyblock.

Jack had a passion for driving and turned this into a career, first with Winnipeg Transit for roughly 25 years, then as a semi truck driver both long haul and locally. Jack ended his career working for Tony's Team Transport, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. Jack loved bringing joy to those around him, and Christmas was the perfect opportunity as he served as Santa at both Polo Park and Portage Place for a combined 17 years. Jack also enjoyed serving others which led him to serving a three year term as School Trustee for Transcona Springfield School Division #12. When the kids were old enough, Jack found another opportunity to serve as a leader in both 25th & 10th Transcona Scouting Groups.

Jack originally fell ill in the early 2000's which was later determined to be renal failure. After receiving a kidney from a living donor in 2012, Jack was able to recover and return to a mostly healthy life. In 2017 however Jack's health took another turn when he lost a leg, but once again bounced back to a mostly normal life. Jack's health however took another turn for the worse which ultimately cost him his career. Early in 2020, Jack lost his other leg, where once again he made a reasonable recovery. Jack never would learn to walk again however maintained most of his independence in other areas of his life.

Over the summer of 2022, Jack suffered several bouts of ill health seeming to always rally until August when his health rapidly declined and he was hospitalized. On August 12, we received the news he had cancer. After more tests and scans it was determined the cancer was too aggressive to fight as he also was diagnosed with pneumonia. Knowing Jack was unable to fight, the hard and loving decision was made to turn to palliative care until he peacefully passed away on August 24.

Besides his immediate family Jack leaves behind his brother Georg (Lilly), brother in law Glenn (Shirley), sisters in law, Corinne (Gunter), Denise, Elizabeth (Vince), as well as sons Jason Lang and Richard Schweitzer. Jack also leaves behind numerous family, friends, as well as friends who became family.

Jack was a Christian minded man who expressed his faith by being kind to others and as such has requested to be interred at the memory garden at his home church. His ashes will be laid to rest September 18 on what would have been his 72nd birthday. The family would like to invite all who would like to come to a luncheon in his honour at 3pm the same day in Niverville at the home of Michelle, Kevin & Zoey Zyblock, 31 Hampton Drive, Niverville. If you are planning to attend, please bring a chair so we may be outside if the weather cooperates, otherwise we will be inside.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at GD4 at HSC as well as Dr David Rush, Dr Bruce Martin, and Dr Julie Ho.
