ERVIN "BABE" McINTYRE

July 5, 1938 - July 27, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Ervin (Babe) McIntyre on July 27, 2021, in the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Ervin’s life began on July 5, 1938, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.  He was the third eldest of ten children born to Walter and Mary (Mae) McIntyre.  He was predeceased by his parents, brother Tom McIntyre; sister Cleo Oliver; brother-in-law Leo Oliver; infant brother Wilson; infant sister Kathleen; as well as niece Leona Theriault (Oliver); and nephews Dave and Frank Oliver.   He is survived by his partner and caregiver Louise Nobess; his daughter Tracey Mitchell; and her mother Glenda Claeys; brother Wilson (Sheliah) McIntyre of Glace Bay, NS; sisters Barbara Harrington of Dartmouth, NS, sister Leona McIntyre of Victoria, BC, brother Bill (Debbie) McIntyre of Sydney, NS, sister Betty (Robert) McCarty of Toronto, ON; sister-in-law Sheila McIntyre of Nanaimo, BC as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Ervin worked his entire life as a painter/paperhanger, learning the trade from his father at a very young age. In his later years he also worked as a long-distance bus driver and school bus driver until his retirement.  He travelled from Nova Scotia to Alberta and picked up residence wherever he felt comfortable at the time.  Most of his life was spent in Winnipeg so that he would be close to his daughter.

Ervin made many friends over his lifetime and could be found with a guitar in hand and singing at house parties, just relaxing by himself in his living room or making up and singing silly songs to Tracey when she was young. He may have stopped playing the guitar a number of years ago, but he always kept singing little ditties and humming wherever he was.  He enjoyed getting up early and meeting his buddies at Tim Hortons for coffee and chit chat every morning.  He had a great sense of humor and was quite the storyteller.  Ervin will be missed by many.

In keeping with Ervin’s final wishes cremation has taken place, no funeral or memorial service will he held. His ashes will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Nova Scotia, with the assistance of his brother Bill.   Ervin’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.
