LOIS ABBOTT

July 29, 1929 – December 28, 2021

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Lois Abbott on December 28, 2021 at the age of 92.

Lois was born on July 29, 1929 in Winnipeg.  She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sandra (Elias) and Nancy (Jason); and her granddaughter Taylor. She will also be missed by her step son Greg (Carol-Ann); grandchildren Jenna and Ryan; sister in law Gwen (Don); and niece Beverley.

As a young woman, Lois worked for the Great West Life Insurance Company.  She left the work force to raise her daughters and many years later returned to work for the Federal Government at Statistics Canada retiring in 1995.

Lois enjoyed family holidays travelling to Hawaii, Florida & Kelowna.  Over the years, there were many weekend road trips to North Dakota, which she preferred, as there was no flying involved.

Even though Lois was a few months shy of 80 when Taylor was born, there was a very special bond between the two despite the significant age gap.  Gran jumped right in helping with late night feedings, diaper changes, laundry and play time.  It brought a youthfulness to her soul and a smile to her face that would light up the room.

Lois recently moved to the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home where her big personality made a bigger impact on those who helped care for her.  She will be dearly missed & fondly remembered by many of the staff members who were so kind & compassionate particularly in her final days.  A special thank you to Station 3 nurses Shawna & Valerie and all of the staff that provided exceptional care over the past few years.

Respecting Mom's wishes, there will be no formal service.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lois' memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice.

Lois lived at Eastern Star Chalet, where we got to know each other.  Lois was a caring, lively woman whom I will never forget.  This beautiful picture of her in her kitchen speaks volumes.  The look of love, intelligence, humour and spark of life shines through clearly in her smile and in the light of her eyes.  I am glad that I met you Lois.  I love the song "When I get to Where I am Going."  I will miss you here, and I will see you there!  Fare thee well my friend!  Irene❤

Lois was a regular customer at our Charleswood store. She always took the time to talk to me and tell me about her family and the joy she got when babysitting her precious grand-daughter. My thoughts are with Nancy and Jason and family during these difficult times.

❤My sincere condolences to Sandra , Nancy & family. Lois & her brother Stan were cousins & were like older siblings growing up on Ashburn Street. I have so many fond memories of Lois. She was so kind to me. Lois & Norm used to take me to Styles confectionary on Portage for a coke floats. We used to go to Hoban's park at Beausejour for picnics on Sunday afternoons in Aunt Ida & Uncle Shorty's car. Uncle Les Taylor , 97 , who was close to Lois sends his love to the family. My favourite cousin will be dearly missed.

Granny was full of life, love and laughter.  She always waved to us from your deck.  And whenever we had a conversation, she was always chatty and witty. Granny made us laugh so heartily.  And she didn’t mind that we called her Granny!  She took care of Taylor with so much joy and pride.  Her presence was like a ray of sunshine whenever you saw her.  Granny will forever live on in all our hearts, especially her close family and friends.  Thank you for the beautiful memories, Granny.  Sleep in peace.❤

So sorry to hear about the passing of Lois. Though my mom, Pat Hart, is now in care at Riverview I will be sure to tell her of the loss of her cousin. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this difficult time.

Lois welcomed us when we moved in beside her at the Scotswood townhouses. We have many great memories of our neighbour - extended family - much laughter and sharing of recipes. Our sincere sympathy Nancy and know that we feel so honoured to have known your Mom.  Ramona & Jack

❤This woman made a huge impact on my life in my teenage years! She was like a second Mom to me. Always made me feel welcome in her home, took me on weekend trips and sent me on trips with Nancy. I went on my first trip on a plane with Nancy because of her generosity. I will never forget her and what she did for me. Loved her down to earth personality!
