TABATHA JUNE ABREY

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend, Tabatha June Abrey on October 17, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital.

She is predeceased by her mother Judy Abrey (née Taraschuk) and brother, James Abrey, who recently passed on April 20, 2023.

​

Tabatha leaves behind in mourning her father, Lloyd Abrey (Deborah); loving and devoted friend, Hal Slater; grandfather, Gerald Schoeneweis and many other loved ones including numerous family members, countless friends and caregivers at her Actionmarguerite home.

​

Tabatha was born in Winnipeg on June 30, 1973 to Judy and Lloyd Abrey. 

​

Tabatha grew up in Winnipeg where she graduated from Dakota High School. She had a successful career as a nurse’s aid and worked at many different nursing homes including Actionmarguerite St. Boniface (formerly known as Tache Nursing Home).

Tab enjoyed spending her weekends out with her many friends.  Some nights you could find up to 4 or 5 of them at our place getting ready to go out for the evening then always returning later after a fun night at the club.

During the summer Tabatha could be found quading or tanning at Tall Timber Lodge. She loved the outdoor life.

​

Her love for animals was unsurmountable, especially for Katie, her big white lab, who was the highlight of her life.

Tabatha was a fun loving, happy-go-lucky person that loved all of her family. She was also a very spiritual person and would not miss a Sunday at Church. This is where she met her devoted friend, Hal Slater, who stood by her until her last day.  She will be truly missed by all of her family and friends.

The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the very special staff at Actionmarguerite Saint Boniface for their compassion, love, and support during Tabatha’s care. Special thank you to the St. Boniface Palliative Unit team on the 6th floor for their care and kindness during Tabatha’s last days.

​

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.

​

A celebration of Life will be held for Tabatha at at 11:00 am to 2 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2023 Sinclair Park Community Centre (490 Sinclair Street). Cremation has taken place.

​
