JUNE DELORES ADAIR

It is with great sadness that the family of June Delores Adair (née Thompson) announce her passing after a valiant fight with Thyroid cancer. Mom lived a great, long life, having turned 91 this past June. Mom was born and raised in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg, grew up in the West Alexander area, had stops in Oyen and Edmonton Alberta, and then settled to raise her family in Sunny St. James for the rest of her days.

Left to mourn June are her husband of almost 66 years Tom; and sons, Brian, Brent (Brenda), and Daryl (Theresa). Also left to remember grandma are her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Trynda, Gregory, Alyssa, Brianna, Brooke, Colton, and Greyson. Additionally left to mourn are June’s sister Barbara and family; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

June was predeceased by her parents, Gladys and Henry Thompson; her brother Al; and sister-in-law Doreen Thompson.

Mom had three loves in her life – her family, the cottage at Laclu and Elvis! Mom put her entire family before herself, including all her extended family. Her treasured Christmas baking will be sorely missed as it was a highlight for our families to get their take-home box of goodies! Thankfully mom passed down her recipes with love to her granddaughters in the way of a cookbook full of her famous recipes. Whenever there was a family event it was mom who would be on the phone calling all the relatives. Her lists of phone numbers were used even now as she has passed on - to let family and friends know she is gone but not forgotten. She always thought it better to spend money on a phone call rather than a stamp.

Her love of Laclu extends to her family now, including all her grandchildren. Mom first started going to Laclu in the months after she was born – even before there was a road there. There wasn't a summer that went by in her life that she didn't spend some time out at Laclu and with friends from Kenora. Mom was so happy to share the cottage with everyone and is watching down from Heaven to make sure dad still cleans up before he heads home to Winnipeg.

Elvis may very well have been her “first love” and to this day there are pictures, calendars, posters, Christmas ornaments and books all around the house so she was never far from him!

In later years mom and dad got to travel more, and some of mom's favourite places included: Sweden, Great Britain, France, Cuba, Maui, Oahu, Mexico, Australia, Caribbean and Alaskan Cruises, and probably her favourite trip - to see the Dr. Phil show live in Los Angeles!

While mom was first and foremost a homemaker for her family she also worked at various jobs in her life: Eaton's mail order, where she made many lifelong friends, Welcome Wagon Hostess, Stats Canada Interviewer and the Manitoba Teachers Society.

Mom lived a good long life and enjoyed every moment of it. In the past three years she fought hard against the cancer that was invading her body but never gave up. The family is grateful to know she passed away in her sleep having fought the good fight. Thanks to the first-responders who attended to her at home where she took her last breaths, and to all the doctors (in particular Dr. Gordon), nurses and support staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, and her family doctor, Dr. Gavin Roche.

Cremation has taken place and a small gathering of family and close friends will take place at a later date as mom didn’t want any fanfare or gathering.
