LOCKLYN GLENN AITKEN

March 3, 1938 – May 7, 2025

With sadness, the family of Locklyn Glenn Aitken announces his passing on May 7, 2025.

Lock was predeceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Patricia Aitken; his brother, William; and his parents, Robert and Margaret. Lock was married twice. His first marriage, to Marcia Claire Luptak in 1964, brought three children: Jeremy (Chris), Adrienne (Dale), and Douglas. Later, he married Patricia Aitken (Berezowski), with whom he had a daughter, Elizabeth (Alex).

He leaves behind his grandchildren: Abby, Rachel, Ashley, Epimaque, Arlan, Theodore, Bridget, and Gracie; as well as several dear friends and family.

Born in Dauphin and raised in Grandview, Lock was the second son of a farmer and a nurse. He inherited a strong sense of responsibility and a tireless, quiet work ethic. Lock earned a degree in education and dedicated his career to teaching and leadership roles across western Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with a particular focus on special education. He eventually rose to the role of district coordinator of the Rolling River School Division and later served as a school principal in Somerset, Manitoba. Lock remained active in retirement, earning his real estate license and later working for Canada Post.

Driven by a hardwired need to tinker, dabble, create, repair, restore, and rectify, Lock could often be found in his garage, building or reimagining new uses for old items. It wasn’t just a passion—it was who he was. When not working on passion projects, he indulged in nonfiction, always eager to explore new topics, ideas, and viewpoints.

Across many years, he passed on his curiosity, energy, and dedication to hard work to his children, inspiring their creativity and always seeking the best individual paths to help them thrive.

Lock cherished time with family and friends, often planning his travels around the people he could reconnect with along the way. For him, the best part of any journey was being with the people along the way—sharing stories, memories, and connecting.

He will be remembered for his decades of steady service and dedication to students, and his belief in the transformative power of education.

His presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Lock’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Very sorry to hear this - sincere condolences to the family! I got to know Lock when he married a dear university friend, Pat. I remember the sparkle in his eyes. Rest in peace.
