ASHLEIGH GILLIAN ALTY

(née STEFANSSON)

May 18, 1979 - September 3, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our funny and beloved Ashleigh.

Ashleigh was born in Calgary to parents Leonard and Carla Stefansson and big Brother Jason. Soon after Ashleigh was gifted a little sister Ainsley, who would spend the next decade following her around.

Ashleigh and family moved to Winnipeg where she would spend most of her life. Ashleigh excelled in school. She loved choir, math, and socializing with her friends. Ashleigh would win all the spelling bees and would later attribute this to the many late nights playing boggle with her Mother Carla.

Ashleigh loved music, dancing and vacuuming, but her greatest love was her cat, Jacqueline Dorothy. She would tell you in every conversation how Jacqueline was loaded with love and character. She loved her big monkey to bits. Ashleigh’s only wish in her final days was that her sister ensure Jacqueline was always loved. She is.

Ashleigh will be forever remembered and missed by her father Leonard, brother Jason (Kelly), sister Ainsley (Neil), nieces and nephews Cameron, Aiden, Kieran, Shelby, Justin, Brandon and Chloe, numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

Ashleigh was predeceased by her best friend and Mother Carla who she missed intensely every day.

If family and friends desire, donations can be made to Tamarack Recovery Centre.

Ashleigh's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I just found out. I am heartbroken. Ash and I had a connection...we experienced the tremendous fall of life and both faced paths we would rather not be on. She was always the spirit and goodness in a room. Her energy alone could light up the darkest spaces. She graced our hearts and we all love her today and everyday before and in-between.  Rest in peace my beautiful friend xo

Ashleigh, you were a force. If nobody wanted to laugh that night, well watch out. From the nights we spent up in your midget room, to the nights we spent gathering 5 cent candies from 7-11, we all became forces to be reckoned with 😂 Ashleigh would embarrass all of us… not to be mean… but to be funny. ..And your cats!! You loved your cats more than you loved humans (I don’t blame you). You had some struggles, as we ALL do, but to remember your laugh and your crazy humour, humbles us all (at least it does me).  Never let that light fade up there. Thank you for being a part of my life. Every time I eat a 5 cent candy, I will think of you. What a beautiful obit, and celebration of life Ainsley. I’m so very sorry for your loss. ❤️

Ashleigh and Carla took such good care of our home for many years. After that ended, she still kept in touch through occasional Facebook comments and messages. We will miss her humour and warm thoughts but take comfort with the thought that she is now at peace and back with Carla, probably vacuuming.

Dollie Bird, I love you, your internal beauty, your smile, your laugh, your childlike mischief. (Soooo Mischievous!)  Fitness bootcamp, sewing lessons, beach trips, dinners and endless nights of coffee, belly laughs and too many cigarettes. Memories I will cherish of you forever, DB. Be peaceful as your larger than life spirit lives on forever❤.  - Buffy  (Marie) xoxoxox

Ash and I were roommates at Tamarack. We would stay up all night talking and Ashleigh would always have her candy, then she would wake up in the morning with candy imprints on her cheek. She could always make me laugh. I will miss you so much girl. Rest In Peace! ❤
