Eleanor Anderson
ELEANOR JEAN LUCY ANDERSON
July 15, 1943- November 12, 2018
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Anderson on Monday, November 12, 2018. Elly passed away after a short battle with cancer under the wonderful care of the St-Boniface Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Ron; daughters JoAnn (Mark), Amy, and Maureen; and sons Paul (Kathy) and Rob (Amber). She is also survived by granddaughters Taylor, Nikki, Haydin, Kate, Hope, Rebecca, Jocelyn, and Lauren; and grandsons Justin (Karine), Alexander, Devin, and great-grandson Liam.
Eleanor, also lovingly known as Granny or Elly, was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 15, 1943 to her caring parents Ellwood and Eva Wray. She was predeceased, last year, by her loving brother, Robert.
Eleanor grew up in St-Laurent, Quebec enjoying piano, ballet, and dance and a bit of mischief with her best-friend Marlene Veloz. Eventually she opened Eleanor’s Dance Studio and continued teaching dance and yoga for many years.
Eleanor lived in Greenwood, Nova Scotia where her son Paul was born then matriculated to Rosemere, Quebec and gave birth to her daughter, JoAnn. She lived in Rosemere until 1984 during which time she went back to school and graduated with a degree from Concordia University.
When JoAnn graduated high school, Eleanor packed her bags and moved to Winnipeg with her daughter, elderly mother, aunt, and her brother Robert. A year later, she met her husband Ron at a church event.
This joyful union with Ron and her step-children Rob, Amy, and Maureen, started a new chapter in her life.
As a faithful Winnipegger, she loved her family, home, summer lake cottage, and friends. She worked as an Activities Director at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg until her retirement.
A fitness enthusiast, who would at times perform the ‘splits’ in front of her amazed grandchildren, was a part of her daily routine as much as her morning scoop of oatmeal.
She loved going to Reh-Fit Fitness Centre and spending time with fellow friends and fitness buffs.
Family was most important to Eleanor. She would make frequent trips to Los Angeles and Knowlton for visits. Her second favorite reason to visit Los Angeles – a ritual of shopping at Ross department stores on the hunt for a bargain.
Eleanor was a person of strong faith and a long standing member of Grant Memorial Church.
To know Eleanor was to love her.
A celebration of life took take place on Saturday, November 17th at 1:00 PM at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at St-Boniface Hospital for their amazing care and compassion.
Those who so wish may make a donation in Eleanor’s name to Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity/cause of choice.
