GEORGE EDWARD ANDERSON

February 7, 1945 - April 16, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved George at Riverview Palliative Care.

George leaves to mourn his son Scott (Wendy); grandsons, Trafford, Quaid and Corbin; sister Jean McDonald; nephews Chris and Stuart;  his long-time girlfriend Sharon; and cousins. Predeceased by beloved daughter Marcy; father George; mother Pauline (Lena); friend Ken; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

After graduation from Glenlawn Collegiate in St. Vital and Red River Community College from the Drafting Course, George worked at Manitoba Hydro and CMHC. George also had a Home Inspection Company which he operated for many years.

George was an accomplished builder having built two homes for the family and one to resell. He could fix anything and did home maintenance for Jean and Sharon for many years.

George loved his many pets especially the dogs he had growing up and Brandy whom he shared with his family. Animals were always following him home. They seemed to know his kindness.

Winters were spent in Arizona, Florida, and finally Wesleco, Texas. Retiring to cottage life at Boundry Park, Winnipeg Beach. George sold the cottage and moved back to Winnipeg where he lived with Jean, Chris & Stuart. We survived Covid-19 together and reconnected our childhood lives. Lots of funny stories came out of this.

George will be missed by many friends at Winnipeg Beach where they had dinners, BBQs and visiting.  He met neighbours at his “garage sales” every year.  Friendship with his high school buddies meant a lot to George.  Ken (d.2012), Jim, Marv, “Big George” met over many lunches over the years.

George has been cremated and at his request there will not be a service.

Rest in peace dear George. You will be missed.

George's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

So many memories with the Andersons in the early years. Especially George’s friendship with my late husband and their many many Saturdays working together. My deepest condolences to his family. George was a loyal friend and very kind man.

George and I were about 1 year apart in age, and as kids our families regularly visited each other. When I left the farm to get my first job in the big city, George's parents let me stay at their home on Handyside Ave. where I shared a bedroom with George. I always appreciated this and have fond memories of getting my start in my adult working life. Sorry to hear of his passing and pass on my condolences to his sister Jean, and his sons family. A number of years ago George and I were driving around. It was winter and I decided to cut through a back lane when George said he better put his shoes on. I looked down and the next thing that happened was the car was pulled by the snow through someones fence. Shortly after that we were surrounded by the St. Vital police, who, at the time, only had 2 police cars. They must have thought we were hardened criminals or else they had nothing better to do. George said it wasn't safe to drive around with me anymore. Condolences to George's family.

George made my dad, Jim laugh so much he could hardly catch a breath, but George would maintain this sort of composed straight-man look, or give a little wink and a smile. My condolences to his family and friends. Kim Ashbourne

I didn't get this to Jean in time but after Glenlawn George received a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the Manitoba Institute of Technology. The institute was subsequently renamed Red River Community College, then Red River College and only recently it became RRC Polytech.
