IAN THOMAS ANDERSON

February 14, 1934 – January 23, 2025

On January 23, 2025, at the age of 90, the bag pipes played and called Ian to heaven to sing with the angels.

Left to cherish Ian’s memory are his wife of 55 years Helen; daughter Kathleen (Johnny); son David (Crystal); grandchildren, Alexis and Colten; and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine (née McIntosh Grant) and Hugh Anderson; his sister Catriona; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Ian was born in Gourock, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1959. His career as a design engineer led him to work with diesel, steam, and water turbines. Eventually moving into commercial sales until his retirement. Retirement is when the real fun began. Grandsitting Alexis and Colten until they started school kept their days very busy!

He had many interests over the years, from rugby and car racing, to curling and golf. Ian and Helen spent 15 years traveling to Palm Springs during the cold Manitoba winters to visit their lifelong friend Wendy. Ian enjoyed their bridge groups and St. Chad’s Vintners (wine club). Attending Alexis and Colten’s sports games and school events kept them on the go.

Ian was an active member of the Assiniboine Rotary Group for many years, having served as Club President more than once, and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was an active Anglican in St. Chad’s Parish, having served as Board Chairman of the Assiniboine Christian Centre, as well as lay reader and choir member. He spent many years volunteering for Cancer Care, the United Way, and Diabetes Manitoba. Ian was a lifelong blood donor, always answering the call, donating more than 150 pints in his lifetime.

The family would like to thank Sherrie, Erin, and 2nd Floor staff at Golden West Lodge, the 3W Floor staff at Deer Lodge, and Joyce at the Alzheimer's Society for their care and compassion.

In accordance with Ian’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Until then, raise a glass of scotch for a life well lived. Slange Var!

Ian’s family kindly requests that his relatives and friends take a few minutes to honour his memory by enjoying the photo tribute. You are welcome to share your own photos, memories or stories using the comment section on this page.

Ian was a very smart, caring and compassionate person. He was an excellent public speaker who was always happy and willing to

convey Wedding and Thanksgiving presentations at many family events. He will be missed by many. We are so sad for Aunty Helen, Kathleen, David and their Families. You are in our thoughts and we wish you strength at this difficult time.

Helen & Family - You are in my prayers! Ian was one of our long time Lay Readers and he and I had many conversations on how things had to be done. Fortunately most times we agreed. He had a powerful speaking voice and we missed him when he stepped down as a Lay Reader. May you find peace knowing that Ian is resting in peace! Love and God Bless - job well done faithful servant

Very beautiful tribute to a lovely man and his family. He will be missed by all who he attended St. Chad's with. When my children and I started going there he and Helen were so gracious. and am grateful. Rest in Peace Ian and God bless and be with his family and may God provide all the care and support they will need during this difficult time.

Our sincere condolences to the Anderson family. Helen And Ian always welcomed me with open arms into their home. I'll always remember his passion for cars and his true interest he took in the people he spoke with. A truly wonderful man.
