RACHEL MARY ELIZABETH ANDERSON

(née BENNETT)

August 14, 1946 to March 30, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rachel Anderson, our mother and grandmother, who left us suddenly in her home on March 30, 2021 at the age of 74.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan (Darryl), Kim (Duane), and Paulette (Steve); grandchildren Kelsie, Tayja, Samantha, Anton, Alyna, David, Adam, and Jada; as well as her beloved cat Kiger. She was predeceased by son Jeffery, who she is now happily reunited with.

Rachel was born in Kenora, On. and lived in various Ontario and Manitoba communities before settling in Winnipeg with her young family in the 1970’s. She trained and worked in health care, bringing her gentle and kind personality to her work caring for others at St Amant Centre and Senior’s residences.

In recent years, Rachel loved spending time with her grandchildren and causing mischief with them, always with a huge smile while doing it. She also loved to watch tv series and movies, claiming with pride that she had seen every show on Netflix (which she called “Nitflix”) and sharing with enthusiasm about what she watched. Her favorite show was Heartland. She loved search and find games and to play games like Skip-Bo. Even more than playing, she liked teasing us when she won! Rachel also enjoyed time outside with her family and friends, hanging out and watching them fish with a Timmie’s coffee in hand.

It did not take much to make our mom & grandma happy and, without her, we find great sadness. She enjoyed a simple life, never wanting for much but always giving whatever she could. She will be dearly missed.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place along with a private family farewell.

It is the family’s hope that a larger gathering / celebration of life can be arranged in the near future (once Covid restrictions lift), details for which will be shared directly by family members. Until that time, we ask you to take a few minutes to honour her memory and share a story.

I'm so saddened to hear about the loss of Rachel and her son, Jeff. I'm an old friend of her daughter Joan. Her home was like my second home through my teen years. She was a kind woman who always seemed to have a smile on her face. Just tonight I was going through old photo albums and memories,  telling my child about the Andersons and saying how sad I felt that we lost touch a few years back. I'm devastated that you all had to suffer such a loss. Always in my memory.

MY CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY 🙏✌💜💞 Rachel was one of the first people I had met first coming to Winnipeg in April of 1992. She was a Beautiful woman. We had lots of wonderful moments ❤ She soon became one of my best friends and wonderful babysitter. She was always  good with the kids and always enjoyed teaching, sharing, her experiences with others. Always, with a smile on her face, she would be glad to help out, hangout or even just sit quietly  watching and enjoying the simplest things in life. She had great love for her family and those around her. We had some really good times together going to Bingo. I would ask her out to places she wouldn't normally go, being a little nervous at first with hesitation, always up to a new adventure, she would say Ya sure what the heck I'll go  and off we would go with me reassuring her we will be ok .lol...By the end of the night she would have the biggest smile on her face and say to me will that wasn't bad at all I'm glad you invited me out, I had a great time. Rachel you will be greatly missed by many 💞 I'm so happy that you were apart of my life 🥰I will cherish all the wonderful moments that we had..the laughter and smiles on your face🥰 will remain with me close to my heart and will remind me that it's the little things in life that make life's joy🥰 May you Sore with the Eagles and Dance with Angles..Love you🥰..Forever missed😔 not forgotten🥲 ✌💜😘

I met Rachel in 1986 living on Larsen... Our kids met and played together. It wasn't long after that Rachel and I became friends... Rachel had a huge heart for anyone that came into her life especially little ones.... as well as neighbouring kids....  My kids will never forget her and neither will I. I will never forget the stories we shared... Lots of laughing so hard that we would cry.. I'm sorry that I didn't keep in touch with her to share our grandbabies stories. RIP my dear friend You will never be forgotten ❤️❤️❤️

Rachel was a dear friend of my mom's we all lived on the same block, a time I remember most is of the seance that was held at our house. Rachel had an accident later that week and adopted an adorable little girl after that
