Verna Anderson

VERNA IRIS ANDERSON
(née McCarthy)
January 26, 1945 – July 14, 2025
Verna Iris Anderson (née McCarthy) passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, in Ste. Anne, Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her infant Brother Richard in 1948; her beloved father Stanley in 1988; and her cherished mother Rose Annette (née Tauffenbach) in 2008.
Verna leaves behind a legacy of laughter, unconditional love, and unwavering faith. She will be profoundly missed by her devoted husband of 63 years, Mervin, who never left her side, especially in her final days. Their love was a constant and enduring presence in each other’s lives—a true testament to their vows.
Left to grieve her immeasurable loss is her sister Vi Stoetzel; her children: Randy (Leanne), Sylvia Truesdale (Rick Morris), Ryan (Dani Perron), and Suzanne Halyk (Jeff); her grandchildren: Stephanie Larson (Matt), Amber, Brittney (Travis Manek), Samantha (Abdu Ali), Joshua Chliboyko, and Austyn; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Mason, Bailey, Linnea, Sumaya, Jack, Zayden, and Adaleigh.
Family was Verna’s entire world—and the love she gave was returned a hundredfold. Her home was the heart of every holiday, where Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and birthdays were celebrated with joy, warmth, and her signature hospitality. She took great pride in preparing festive meals and decorating her home. At Thanksgiving, no one left without one of her homemade pies—a symbol of her generosity and thoughtfulness.
Verna’s sense of humour and radiant smile lit up every room. She had a gift for storytelling that brought laughter and often tears of joy. Those lucky enough to sit in “Mama’s Chat Chair” knew that Verna spoke the truth with love, never afraid to offer honest advice with a twinkle in her eye and her heart full of care. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and deeply cared for. One of Verna's signature moves—her cheeky gesture of flipping the bird and proclaiming, "You’re Number One!" with a mischievous grin—was a playful way of showing affection, respect, and a touch of humor. But it was also her way of letting you know it was time to smarten up, that made you laugh even when you were on the receiving end.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their compassionate care during Verna’s final days.
A come-and-go gathering to celebrate Verna’s life will be held at a later date for close friends and family.
Verna’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I have so many fond memories of times when Stan and I went to visit we were always made to feel welcome. The two of them would bring out the tape measures and figure out the next project they were going to do. The cross word puzzles they worked on. The games he put on her laptop and would have trouble with it and he would say quit hitting delete button and they would laugh and put more on for her. At Christmas and Thanksgiving and birthdays we were always welcome and included. The one year we went to see our son for Christmas she said whose going to cut up the ribs for me and tell me when my pies are ready and tell you to get out of my kitchen and we both laughed. We and I spent many wonderful times with Verna and family great memories. Bob our brother in law called us the three outlaws Verna Bob and myself we laughed hard. She always had a smile on her face and told it as it was. The chat chair and flipping the bird as number one with a smile on her face.I am going to miss my sister in law very much. Say hi to Stan and Dustyn for me .Keep everyone in line see you when we meet again .Love you lots big hugs.
