Mcintyre Arlene
ARLENE EDNA McINTYRE
(née Witt)
August 25, 1922 – June 26, 2019
Arlene was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Her parents moved to Pine Falls, Manitoba in the fall of 1927, when her father transferred to help in the initial start-up of the Pine Falls paper mill. After completion of Grade 11 (there was no Grade 12 at that time), Arlene worked in the time office of the mill for 4 years.
In 1945, she married Jim McIntyre, who was in the Canadian Air Force. Together they raised 3 daughters, Darlene (Hyworren), Virginia (Barnett) and Shelley (O’Leary). Arlene enjoyed sewing for her girls, gardening, playing cards and bowling with Jim and their friends. She was also a member of the Pine Falls Golf Club, but her primary joy in sports was curling. In this she delighted and excelled, beginning at 18 years of age and not leaving the sport until she was 73, winning many prizes over the years. In later years she was very active in the Golden Leisure Senior’s club. Arlene also was an active member of the Pine Falls United Church and worked with the Explorers girls group for 10 years.
In 2006, due to health problems, she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Due to further deterioration, she moved into Concordia Place, where she remained in relative happiness for over 12 years. Here, she took part in every program, activity and outing offered, and still played cribbage, bingo and computer games. Until the end, she enjoyed watching football, baseball and curling games on TV.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Clara and Carol and a brother, Art, as well as Jim (1918-1999) her husband of 54 years. Surviving are her 3 daughters, and five grandchildren - Amanda Hyworren (Richard Hooper), Bryan and Cyndie Barnett , and Bridget and Kevin (Jennifer) O’Leary.
Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a photo-tribute, stories, and condolences for the family by visiting Arlene’s tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held in the Chapel on the main floor at Concordia Place, 1100 Molson Street, Winnipeg, on Friday, July 5th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
