OLGA BACALA

October 29, 1926 – April 2, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Olga Bacala on April 2, 2026, who died surrounded by loved ones in a moment of deep love and connection, held by her grandchildren while holding her daughter’s hand.

Olga was predeceased by her devoted husband, Nick (2014). She is lovingly remembered by her son Douglas (Gloria), daughter Joanne (Bruce); and her cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Ayako), Lindsay (Steve), and Tyler. She will also be deeply missed by her great-granddaughters, Alexis, Liliana, and Brielle, who brought her immense joy.

She is also lovingly remembered by Donnie (Charlene), whom she loved like a son, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched.

Olga was born in 1926 in Winnipeg to Mike and Anna Serediuk and was raised in the Point Douglas area with her sister, Mary (Boychuck). Known to many as “Red,” Olga made friendships easily and maintained many of them for a lifetime. Her warm, open, and genuine nature allowed her to form meaningful connections everywhere she went.

Olga and Nick eventually settled in their St. James home, where she lived more than 60 years. Their home was the heart of countless celebrations and backyard gatherings. Olga was fun-loving and always part of the laughter. She enjoyed bringing people together and created an atmosphere where everyone felt welcome and included.

She was a devoted mother and Baba who continuously encouraged, supported, and protected her family and those she cared about. She generously spent time with her grandchildren, who adored her, and her love extended naturally to her great-granddaughters as well. Olga’s heart extended beyond her immediate family to the many people she welcomed into her life and treated as her own. An animal lover at heart, Olga warmly welcomed every visiting dog into her home. She shared a very special bond with her beloved grand puppies, Molly and Max, who will miss her dearly, and Meeka, who held a special place in her heart and predeceased her.

Olga had a warm heart and was someone you could talk to about anything without judgment, only empathy, understanding, and unwavering support. Her kindness, compassion, and genuine interest in others made her a trusted confidant and a source of comfort to many.

Mom was one of the lucky ones who kept her mind sharp and her sense of humour strong right to the end. We were so fortunate to have such a caring mother and Baba who loved unconditionally and made everyone feel valued.

In honour of Mom’s life, those who wish may make a donation to K9 Advocacy Manitoba in recognition of her special connection to animals or Canadian Mental Health Association to support mental health advocacy.

A cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

I had the pleasure of working with Olga for 9 years, and then our friendship extended past that time for many years. We used to share so

many with times together with our spouses and Elsie and Johnny. We laughed and shared stories all the time. Such a fun-loving, caring, funny person, I will cherish all the good times we shared, gone for now but forever in my heart. Say hello to Elsie for us, have a little toast to the good times and don't wake the rest with your laughter. Forever Loved.
